The Undertaker said:Wait, what on earth is this!?😕

You all are talking absolute nonsense!

What kind of "analysis" is this even supposed to be!?😕

I suppose next you'll claim you've uncovered some deep symbolism in the color of Shrek's outfit, won't you?😕

No, but Melissa Moore32 is over here trying to argue that Shrek isn't actually special just because he lacks certain elements found in Monsters, Inc. and things of that nature!

Both are honestly amazing! Personally, I’m leaning more towards Monsters, Inc.! But hey, if you think Shrek is the winner, then that's just how it is! End of story!🙄

Of course they’re all good. I really don't want this to devolve into some pointless argument because I'm not claiming that Shrek is superior; I am simply stating that its content differs more significantly than the differences between Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo.

My own personal favorites follow a specific order: first there is Nemo, then Monsters, Inc., and finally Shrek. However, I am inclined to believe that Shrek possesses a somewhat more complex and intelligent sense of humor, not to mention a more sophisticated execution of its core concept.

While *Finding Nemo* and *Monsters, Inc.* certainly excel at delivering sharp parody and those high-energy, hilarious sequences that cleverly disguise a pretty basic core concept, I find myself thinking that *Shrek* actually resonates on a somewhat deeper level than they do.
Let me be clear once again: that doesn't make it better. It simply makes it different.

Richard Howard2 said:Look, they're all great movies, okay? I really don't want this to turn into a huge fight because I'm not saying Shrek is "better"—it's just that the actual vibe and content feel way more distinct than the difference between Monsters, Inc. and Finding Nemo.

Personally, my top pick is Finding Nemo, then Monsters, Inc., and then Shrek, but I honestly feel like Shrek has this slightly edgier, smarter sense of humor and handles its core concept with a bit more depth.

While Finding Nemo and Monsters, Inc. are awesome at nailing those hilarious parodies and high-energy scenes that wrap around a simple idea, I think Shrek digs just a little bit deeper into its own soul.
I mean, again, that doesn't make it superior, it's just different!

Oh man, don't tell me Shrek is a drama now! Give me a break! It's an animated movie with just as much symbolism as the other two! It’s all about how you perceive it! I totally respect your take and your breakdown... but hey, that's just how it lands in your head!

Richard Howard2 said:I still don't think you really get it. Honestly, even the humor in Shrek is on a much higher level than what you see in Monsters, Inc. and stuff like that.

Look, man, think whatever you want.

Richard Howard2 said:By any normal standards, I guess Princess Fiona would have ended up turning into Belle at the end.

But not when they’re trying to prove some kind of "point" to millions of little kids. 😉

Richard Howard2 said:No, but Melissa Moore32 is over here trying to convince everyone that Shrek isn't actually anything special, mostly because of those specific things that aren't even in Monsters, Inc. yet or whatever!

Come on, Richard Howard2, you're starting to sound like a total pushover. 🙄

Monsters, Inc. actually has a sense of humor for the sake of being funny, you know? They aren't just trying to peddle some forced moral lessons or those cheesy friendship stories that only work on little kids. (And clearly, they’re working on you, too.)

I mean, I’ll take an animated movie like that any day over those films that constantly brag about being "complex." Most of them aren't actually deep; they're just a messy pile of clichés and childish life lessons mashed together with some subpar CG animation.

Richard Howard2 said:Honestly, you guys don't have a clue.

Oh... wow. That was just a flawless argument right there. I mean, seriously, how am I even supposed to respond to that? 😲

I'm throwing in the towel, Richard Howard2... you're just too much of an opponent for me to handle. 👋

I honestly didn't think you guys would actually start fighting over a topic like this...
You're awesome.

It's true both have their own little philosophies. Maybe 👍 Shrek is better for the clever twists, but Monsters, Inc. has so much great humor. Personally, I'm leaning
toward Monsters, Inc.
Also, Ice Age doesn't even belong in this conversation, even if it is 👍

Just another little off-topic thought

If we’re talking about humor—honestly, Shrek gave me more laughs than Monsters, Inc.—but The Emperor's New Groove actually took the cake 😁 .. I guess I just have a twisted sense of humor

I must admit, I was pleasantly surprised by the wave of computer-animated feature films that have been targeting mainstream audiences over the last seven years. I’ve sat through almost all of them: Toy Story, Toy Story 2, Ice Age, Shrek, Finding Nemo, Antz, and Monsters, Inc. My only regret is missing A Bug's Life. Honestly, each of these felt significantly more substantial than the politically correct lemonade Disney served us throughout the entire nineties. It seems the writers actually put some genuine effort into the scripts to ensure they were appealing to an audience. I still find myself thinking about that end joke in Toy Story 2 and those fake outtakes from the "making of" the movie. Truly, the golden age of animation.

I find myself wondering what I would actually think if I sat down to watch those old Disney classics today—the ones I used to hunt down on bootleg tapes back in the late '80s. I'm talking about the heavy hitters like The Jungle Book, Lady and the Tramp, Snow White, Alice in Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty, and 101 Dalmatians. They were solid films with genuinely well-crafted characters and great soundtracks, but I can't help but wonder how they would hold up under a modern lens.

Every single one of those was leagues better than the politically correct lemonade Disney kept serving us throughout the 90s. It seems like the writers actually put some effort into the scripts to make them appealing to people. I'll never forget that closing gag in Toy Story 2 with the fake outtakes from the "movie" set. Now that... that is how you write a cartoon!

On another note, you know what I’d love to revisit? Those old Disney classics I used to watch on bootleg VHS tapes back in the late 80s here in the States: The Jungle Book, Lady and the Tramp, Snow White, Alice, Sleeping Beauty, 101 Dalmatians... They were solid films with great characters and fantastic soundtracks. I really wonder how they would hold up if I watched them today.

👍

Those old Disney films still look incredible!
If memory serves, the last truly good Disney movie was The Little Mermaid.

Maybe we should set up a poll for the best animated movie?

Man, those old Disney flicks still hold up so well!
If I recall correctly, the last truly great Disney movie was "The Little Mermaid".

Wait, wasn't Beauty and the Beast right after The Little Mermaid?
I mean, that one's solid too.

There’s already one, just like those threads about Shrek and Monsters, Inc. I'm gonna try and dig up the links now.

Man, what symbolism? I don't have the bandwidth to talk about deep meanings right now—symbolism is whatever you make of it in your own head. Monsters, Inc. rules, everything else is just noise.
Captain who? Honestly, I can't even remember the guy.

Well, I've got The Jungle Book and Alice. 😁

I guess you can catch those if we actually end up hanging out this weekend.

I recently rewatched Snow White, it's available on streaming, released back in '37, but man, does it still hold up.
It was their first feature-length film, and people actually told Disney they were going to go broke.
Ha!
