I saw the trailer. It’s hitting theaters soon. I’m actually pretty hyped because I freaking love that goofy cat, but honestly? Part of me knows I’m just gonna end up disappointed. 🙄 Well... damn. If only I was wrong about this one. 😎

It’ll be perfectly synced, and they’re using a voice actor who sounds just like a certain famous Hollywood legend...

...honestly, I’m losing my patience with this endless wave of comic book adaptations. They completely butchered Daredevil, they trashed Punisher, and now they’re moving on to Elektra (damn them! if they even get that right...😠 )...

Oh, please.
Judging by the poster itself:

Garfield starring Philip Seymour Hoffman

I’ve always had a soft spot for those massive movie posters—the ones where you see Garfield slumped in an armchair, looking like he’s about to eat himself to death from every angle. My aunt promised me she'd grab some for the theater, I guess. 😍 I suppose I’m looking forward to it, though I can’t quite wrap my head around why everything seems to be dubbed lately. I get that it makes things easier for the little ones who haven't mastered reading yet, but maybe, just maybe, they could show an original version once in a while. 🙄

...that's why I don't bother watching stuff like that in theaters. I just wait for the DVD so I can watch the original version. If I'm feeling really adventurous, maybe I'll catch the American dub version...

😲 I actually can't believe this. Why? WHY!!!!!! Oh my God, why.... 🙂

What kind of idiots are these!!!! It's not even a movie for kids. At least, I don't think so. Since it's an animation, people assume it's for little ones, right? Wrong.

I barely got over Bill Murray voicing Garfield, but hey, at least he's actually cool and funny and a legendary actor, so whatever. In "Groundhog Day" he was so perfectly ironic that he could pull off being Garfield.

But Philip Seymour Hoffman???!!!! 🙂

Seriously, what happened to the good old days... 🙄

There is no way I'm watching this in American!

I suppose I have to admit that Garfield is an absolute classic, though I find myself quite conflicted about his visual portrayal in the film version. It’s just not quite right, if you know what I mean. To make matters worse, I can't stand the way they handled the voice dubbing for the American release, so if I'm going to sit through it at all, I think I'll stick to watching it on DVD instead. That said, Bill Murray's voice is truly magnificent.

I barely tolerated Bill Murray voicing Garfield, but hey, he's actually cool, funny, and a great actor, so whatever. In "Groundhog Day" he was so perfectly ironic that I could live with him doing Garfield.

Seriously, what happened to the old standards... 🙄

I am definitely not watching this in American!

What can I even say? I'm just fed up with all this condescension and low-effort nonsense....

...just because it's a cartoon, it must be for children... yeah, sure, let's just use common sense here...🙄

Imagine having some random voiceover artist trying to sound deep while everyone else just mumbles through it.

I actually caught this one, but not in New York—I saw it in a small town outside of Chicago, so I didn't have to deal with the dubbing (the guy voicing John sounded totally desperate there), and honestly, I’m just relieved I didn't have to listen to Fabian.

Anyway, Garfield is unfortunately very Hollywood, so if you're a fan of the actual comic strips, this probably won't blow your mind at all. Even the vet, who is admittedly cute, sweet, and sexy... I mean, if I were single, I might have a shot...
but it's just NOT IT. Ugh, seriously. 😢

BUT!!! Not everything is bad—if you can just put the comics out of your head, the movie is actually really fun and pretty easy to watch.

Garfield is totally cool, and he's my favorite cat. He's kind of a little troublemaker, almost like me, I guess. 😁 😉 garfield eating lasagna

Garfield is just the coolest, hands down my favorite cat—he’s got that mischievous streak that I can totally relate to myself.😁 😉 Garfield eating lasagna

It’s honestly hard to forget those old comics... I can still vividly picture the first time I ever encountered G. back when I was a kid:
.: Betty, look, this is Garfield.
B: Is Garfield a pig?
.: No, he's a cat.
Garfield: (in a little thought bubble) Well, that's just plain insulting!

Seriously, where did our favorite director go... 🙄

I am definitely skipping this one if it's not in English!

Anyone who actually follows the work of Philip Seymour Hoffman would agree he is the perfect choice to lend his voice to Garfield. They really couldn't have picked a better actor from the American talent pool 😁

(though I haven't seen it yet, so I'm bummed I missed him in the theater)

Yeah, my bad. I meant Philip Seymour Hoffman. Fabian is definitely gone.

I don't know. I guess Philip Seymour Hoffman just doesn't sound like Garfield to me. Maybe I'm wrong about that.
I really should hear him do it.

It's actually decent. 🙂
Garfield was good, which honestly surprised me since my expectations were pretty much in the gutter. 😁

The whole vibe feels more like a cartoon than anything else. And John? Not really my thing... but I'll give it to Garfield, he was fine. Someone mentioned he doesn't look right, but honestly, he looks exactly how a realistic cat should look if you're going for that style. Otherwise, they’d have had to make him look like Roger Rabbit.

They threw in some classic Garfield moments too, which was the best part:

John spots a mouse (freaking out): "GO! Get them, Garfield!"
Garfield (totally deadpan): "Go. Get them, John." 😁

Then there's Nermal. 🙂
Garfield (to Nermal): "Let's play brain surgery. Go grab my tools."

Garfield (to a massive Doberman licking Odie): "Luke, meet Odie. You wanna eat him?"

Garfield himself is solid. The movie could've been better, but whatever, it's okay. Plus, having Bill Murray voicing Garfield works just fine. 🙂

Luckily, I didn't watch the dubbed version.

Look, lonemarlin40, this movie has nothing to do with Garfield. I refuse to write anything good about a Garfield flick where John manages to charm the vet (and it’s so obvious from the very start of the movie)... that is just completely anti-Garfield!

I never said the movie was actually *about* Garfield. 🙂
And that vet? She's the polar opposite of the one in the cartoons. This one is all sweet and bubbly, whereas the cartoon one is cold and gross.

What I meant was that ONLY Garfield is actually Garfield. Just him, if you pull him out of the rest of the movie. I was saying the whole plot could've been squeezed into a single cartoon short.

But hey, Garfield is Garfield: "ajde John, just ask her out so she can reject you and we can get back to my life." 😁

.........

Garfield himself is fine. The movie could have been stronger, but it works. As for Bill Murray playing Garfield, he's perfectly fine. 🙂

Luckily, I didn't watch the dubbed version.

I agree 🙂. It’s a solid choice if you just want to unwind and have a laugh 👍
