Honestly, a really solid drama.

Simple, but hits you right in the feels.

I think it’s worth pointing out the incredible scientific method used in this film... especially regarding how they studied the "carefree" types... for instance, looking into their musical preferences... according to the director, about 95% of them swear by The Beatles

Also, Penn’s performance is absolutely breathtaking... easily his best work yet... at least until 21 Grams hits theaters! 🙂

In my honest opinion, this film was an absolute disaster; having Michelle Gonzalez in the cast was one thing, but Sean Penn made it even worse.
It stands out as one of those rare instances where we see a truly lackluster portrayal of someone with a mental disability—if I may be so blunt.
I will admit, however, that the ending wasn't entirely without merit...
It is such a shame because the potential was there, and it really could have been much better. It's particularly disappointing because I actually hold Sean Penn in very high regard.

I think there’s a real distinction to be made between the actual subject matter—which can feel like cheap, forced sentimentality—and the actual quality of the acting. Sean Penn is believable, which is really all you can ask from him in a role like this. Personally, I wasn't a huge fan of the theme or how they handled it... felt a little overblown at times... but the emotions are definitely there, if that's what you're looking for.

Yes, Penn is "believable."
But is that enough to carry an entire film on his back?
Hardly.

The biggest mystery to me remains whatever is going on with Michelle...
It might be about time she actually landed a decent project...

I found the movie to be perfectly fine; perhaps a bit overly sentimental at certain points, but overall... it was a lovely way to unwind 👋

The movie? Forgettable. But that soundtrack? Man, it sticks with you. Those covers of The Beatles are killer—they really assembled a top-tier crew for this one. I grabbed the soundtrack immediately after watching and I’ve been playing it on repeat ever since.👍

I’m a sucker for those movies that practically force you to tears—it just feels like it means something more, you know? Like there's actual soul behind it 🙂
