Reservoir Dogs

I’m just browsing through the threads and realized nobody has brought up Reservoir Dogs yet.
Sure, it’s a bit older now (back in 2001), but it deserves a spot here since it’s honestly better than most of the movies mentioned on this board.
Reservoir Dogs is easily one of the best films coming out of Mexico lately, and definitely one of the finest non-American productions we've seen in years.
The plot is split into three different stories:
First, there's an older teenager living in the inner city who's obsessed with his brother's wife and makes ends meet by taking his dog to fight.
The second story follows a businessman and his supermodel mistress.
Then there's the third story about a total washout—a hitman who used to be a revolutionary leader years ago, but after the movement fell apart, he's just been scraping by on contract killings to support a daughter he stays hidden from.
All these threads collide during a car accident involving the teenager and the model; she ends up permanently disabled, and the hitman, who happened to be nearby watching a different victim, saves the kid's dog from the wreckage before disappearing.
Basically, it's a damn good, gut-wrenching movie. People constantly compare it to Pulp Fiction or Magnolia because of how the separate storylines weave together, but other than that, they don't really have anything else in common.
Anyone else seen it? What are your thoughts?

It hasn't really been its own dedicated thread before... though I swear I see it popping up every now and then whenever people are tossing out movie recommendations.

By the way, I’m actually dying to know—has anyone here sat down and watched "21 Grams"? You know, that American film by Alejandro Gonzalez featuring Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro, and Naomi Watts... has anyone actually seen it?

Left me with a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth after watching that one. I guess maybe I just had too high of expectations, or perhaps it’s because I watched it right after Y Tu Mamá También. I don't know. Either way, I wouldn't really recommend it. 😛

And who on earth compared it to Pulp Fiction?????..is that blind guy 🙄 ..you could actually draw some parallels with Magnolia...

Quite an interesting film. It’s definitely worth a watch. While it doesn't share much substance with Pulp Fiction, the style, structure, and attention to detail are certainly reminiscent of it. One can also see the influence of Buñuel—especially in that segment involving the model and the businessman 🙂—but those comparisons don't take away from the fact that the movie itself is incredibly sharp and richly executed.

Honestly, those idiots in the States were already drawing comparisons to Pulp Fiction; they just can't help themselves when it comes to making those kinds of analogies, can they?

For what it's worth, I thought the movie was absolute perfection. Once the credits roll, you're just left sitting there with a head full of dark thoughts and a lingering sense of paranoia.

An incredible movie. Honestly, I think we've seen very few films this good produced in the last few years...
I highly recommend it to anyone who can stomach raw reality!
Did the ending strike you as positive and optimistic, or was it more

I've been waiting on that one for ages myself. Honestly, I haven't had a spare second to catch it during any of the film festivals I've hit up lately. I’m planning to finally dive into it in the next couple of weeks or so, then I'll let you know if it lives up to the hype.

Honestly, who else out there actually thinks it’s a good idea to recommend a movie that isn't even remotely entertaining? It’s a strange habit, really.

To be honest, it’s a damn good film. I can't quite decide which story hits harder... though I suspect we might see more from Alejandro Gonzalez down the road, provided he isn't just recycling the same tired themes he used in 21 Grams.

I found Iñárritu's work to be flawless—including Powder Keg. But regarding that moment at 11'09"01, Josh is really pulling double duty... 😕

You talking about that 'powder keg' flick—the short one with the blind woman/kid?
If that's the one, it's actually solid—definitely better than that generic crap they put in 'The Follow'
