After reviewing Rubens Barrichello's car and going over the race footage, the Ferrari team released an official statement explaining the crash. It turns out the upper wishbone on the rear left suspension failed—it just couldn't handle the stress after Barrichello hit those curbs at some pretty awkward angles while fighting for position in the previous two corners.
Luckily, Barrichello walked away from the wreck without any injuries. He’s currently taking some downtime back in Brazil while waiting for his testing ban to lift; once he's back on track, he'll be looking to figure out why the Scuderia's performance has dropped off so sharply.
Meanwhile, the German press has started to write off Schumacher as a contender for the next World Champion title. They’re claiming his Ferrari is lacking pace, and that the technical glitches paired with questionable Bridgestone tires are making matters worse. Even Ralf Schumacher has weighed in with the critics, suggesting that Michael probably realizes by now that this year's championship is out of reach. We'll see how things look after the next three races...
