Blade Runner vs. Dark City: Which one is better?

Hmm, I’ve always personally felt that Blade Runner was the ultimate gold standard for blending sci-fi with film noir, so I’m a little surprised to hear you calling it a western!

It’s possible. It really just comes down to how you interpret it.

Great movie with solid performances (Kiefer Sutherland always manages to save the day 😉), though I found the ending a bit underwhelming—it felt somewhat unfinished. It’s a shame there isn't a sequel.

Personally, I think it's a blessing there isn't a sequel. We don't need it to go downhill like the Matrix...

Exactly, you make a fair point there. That said, there are certainly a few rare gems out there where the sequels actually hold their own. Personally, I found the Hellraiser sequels to be just decent enough. 😉

Has anyone else seen this? Honestly, it might be the best sci-fi I’ve ever laid eyes on. The whole thing hit me so hard that after my first viewing, I actually had to sit through it two more times back-to-back just to really wrap my head around everything. There’s something haunting about that feeling... imagining what it would be like if your entire world was nothing more than one massive, dark Gotham City.

Yes, it’s a solid film. I caught it once back when I was just a kid, though the details are a bit fuzzy now; I really ought to give it another watch.
They use that whole gimmick where they manipulate the environment, don't they? 🤣

I watched it too, though honestly, the details are starting to get a bit fuzzy in my mind.
All I really remember is that there are quite a few parts that drag on and feel pretty tedious :/

A movie that unfairly got buried in the back of the video store... Even though it feels similar to the Matrix, I actually prefer this one over that "sanctimonious Matrix" mess—it’s just better.👍👍👍

To is a total masterpiece in my eyes. I’ve probably watched it at least ten times already, and I still find myself constantly looking back at certain scenes and details!
The ending actually leaves me feeling a little bittersweet, especially when she changes her identity at the very end... honestly, I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel.

I don't know, maybe I'm just being cynical, but I honestly think this whole thing is a mess. I’ve already watched those movies. I think I made that pretty clear already. They’re definitely better than *I, Robot*, but even with that one, I still think Alex Proyas is a cool director. He’s brilliant because of those films, honestly. Now, I really need to check out what he did with *Knowing*.

I honestly can't stand it because it feels pretty... stupid and pointless. Sure, he finally dealt with those clock guys, the sun is shining, and you've got waves hitting the shore, but everything else is exactly the same except for that sun. It’s still just this tiny little town floating somewhere in space surrounded by a bit of water—something people haven't figured out yet, and now they want to; so what? To me, the ending is just extremely dumb. And besides, Jennifer is absolutely stunning.😁

Yeah, but now they actually have the power to shape their own destiny—whatever that looks like—and finally carve out their own identity. Basically, the whole thing is driving home the idea that nobody has the right to strip away our free will or our ability to think for ourselves... it’s just wrapped up in this cool SF milieu. And honestly, the best part is how... The Matrix... man, that one just stays with you... Man, he hyped this movie up so many times that the filmmakers probably had to send him a formal thank-you note just to get him to shut up...

I’m all for Jennifer—if she were just a little younger and without that Oscar buzz, though... man, what a waste...😍
