So, I'm sitting here watching this movie.

It isn't exactly terrible, but it's incredibly depressing, tedious, and just filled with constant screaming...

I fail to see any compelling reason to sit through it. Perhaps for women who enjoy reading true crime stories at Madison Square Garden...

I don't mean to be offensive, truly, but what exactly is so magnificent about this film? Personally, I find the fact that it’s based on actual events to be a drawback; the artistic value becomes nothing more than a subjective interpretation of simulated occurrences. One might argue they reached their peak there, but even then, it’s all quite forgettable...

Look, man, you thought the last Star Wars was some masterpiece. As for Ladybird, honestly, in your case, it's like casting pearls before swine. I'd be shocked if you actually "got" it.πŸ™„

So I started watching this based on a recommendation, then realized I’d actually seen it before. All those screams, the kidnapped kids, all that horrible stuff came rushing back. Honestly? I couldn't finish it. Now I'm kicking myself! But I did catch that final confrontation scene (insert comment here:_______)β€”that standoff between the two of themβ€”and man, it was incredible. I wouldn't even call it acting; it felt too real for that. It reminded me what a great movie this is, and then that wave of regret hit. Such... such good characters... how perfectly played... I don't know... there's just something about it.
I don't know if I'm being too much of a fanboy right now, but whatever. You gotta be a fanboy. That's my final word. πŸ™

Mike Legend Care, you absolute legend, what's next on the list? I'm waiting.

What kind of idiot am I? I can't even give someone a compliment without talking trash...

Mickey, bravo. You really know your movies. Love you, thanks, you're awesome! Sorry if I ever talked crap in front of you. Thank you.

By the way, the lead actress had NEVER actually acted in a movie before this... at most, her entire career in show business consisted of singing karaoke in some dive bar (!!!)... 😒

?! How? How did she actually act that out?
And you want to know my biggest mystery? That little girlβ€”the young lead actressβ€”at the start? Those expressions she was making... she looked terrified. She wasn't acting, period! How did they pull that off? Was the guy actually hitting her mom while she had no clue the cameras were rolling? How?! Or was it some computer-generated stuff?! I don't get it, that was 100% pure, raw terror... and it lasted at least 25 seconds. Someone explain that to me if you can, random reader!

Does it really feel like there's only one single karaoke bar in the entire United Kingdom that everyone ends up frequenting? It’s funny because even in this latest film by Leigh, they featured a bar with those tacky silver curtains.

And you know what my biggest mystery is? That little girlβ€”the young lead actressβ€”at the very beginning; the faces she was making, looking absolutely terrified... she wasn't acting, there is no way! How did they even pull that off? Was the guy actually hitting his mom, or did she just have no clue the cameras were rolling? How?! Or was it some kind of crazy CGI effect?! I honestly don't get it; that was 100% pure, raw terror. And it lasted at least 25 seconds too... Come on, someone please explain this to me if you can, mysterious internet stranger!

Well, kids tend to have these totally spontaneous reactions, and honestly, it’s usually much harder to get them to sit still and focus on set than it is to get them to react. I bet Loach was just being so intense that the poor kid ended up breaking down.

How did they pull that off? Like, how was that guy actually hitting her mom and she didn't even realize they were filming? How?! Or was it some kind of CGI?! I just don't get it, it was 100% pure, raw terror... and it lasted at least 25 seconds. Go ahead, explain that to me if you can, oh mysterious stranger!

1. How she acted that out? Only God knows... if there is one. It's just one more reason why this movie is such a masterpiece. (And they didn't even give her the Oscar she clearly deserved either... πŸ†™ )

2. Ken Loach is a trained actor who just happened to start directing. His methods for working with actors (especially when it comes to getting natural performances) are pretty unorthodox. I can go into the weeds on that if anyone actually wants to hear it. πŸ™‚

3. Ken Loach doesn't mess around with computer animation. 😎

4. 4th Karaoke is a huge deal in England. πŸ™‚

Hey, Random Reader (RR), the rerun starts in an hour. I’m gonna sit there and watch that little creature rubbing its paws against its slimy ankles. There is zero chance that's fake. You should watch too, RR. I bet you'll see exactly what I mean.

As for karaoke? No way. Not in a million years. Unless George Michael is watching me. Don't even ask, RR.

driftingowl27 has seen that movie a dozen times already... 😳

It all comes down to the direction. It's the work of a true legend... which is exactly why he's who he is...😎>
