When do they actually play music in school?

The other day at my high school, they started playing music during the breaks.
At first, it wasn't too bad—just some Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pink, and Jennifer Lopez (though I was already getting a bit tired of that). But then, during the long break, they played Justin Timberlake—actually, wait, I can't change that—then they played Elvis Presley... but honestly, it was just... look, I know I shouldn't complain, but when they started playing those two Muslim songs, I completely lost my cool. It was some kind of techno track with someone wailing in Arabic in the background. I felt like I was standing right in the middle of a mosque!!!
It was a total disaster!
And I just sat there thinking... how can a high school play this kind of music? Are these really high schoolers? Is this what the future leaders of our country sound like? Playing this Muslim nonsense in such a prestigious school?!!! It’s a disgrace.
What kind of music do they play at your schools, if they even play anything at all?

What’s even the point of those prestigious private academies if they just end up turning out racist little brats like you?
I'm guessing the DJ was spinning some Panjabi MC - 'Mundian to bach ke', which I think might be the single of the year so far 🙂

Honestly, schools shouldn't even be playing music. It makes zero sense. There's always some group trying to force their shitty taste on everyone else just to feel important...
Today in my class, right before music started, they were blasting Riblja Čorba. These dudes were totally vibing, singing along to "When I Was Young," but it was driving everyone else insane. Then, a bunch of girls took over the aux, blasted some obnoxious techno beat, and started headbanging like they were at some rager.
And then, you know how it goes—they shove their little anthem in your face, all smug, asking, "Isn't this awesome?" And when they see you don't give a damn, they just keep nodding their heads like idiots. It’s gross. Who the hell does that in a school?

Are you actually suggesting that someone would blast techno with an Arabic track in the background inside a mosque? 😕
God help the educated and cultured people left in this world. 🙄

It’s kind of wild seeing someone obsessed with Dead Can Dance, especially when you have to point out how their whole sound is basically built on those "Muslim" influences. 😁

When you're playing music for a massive crowd at a high school—and I really hope you aren't actually in middle school based on how you're acting—it's totally normal to spin mainstream hits that everyone can vibe to.
That single the DJ probably dropped was by Panjabi MC, and honestly, it’s been one of the biggest tracks out there this past year. I think it was even the number one hit in the US for a few months (Pocket Venus was the top track for the whole year).

The fact that you're just a moody teenager who can't keep it together (and btw, you don't look nearly as cool as you think you do) is your issue, not the DJ's...

but since my buddy was the one playing it, we mostly just let it slide🙂

then one day, something went missing from the manager's office, and she officially banned all music (since the people playing it had to be in her office anyway)😢

By the way, it's interesting how "normal" people who don't really care about music or just listen to whatever pop is on the radio find this kind of stuff totally repulsive. Most people were genuinely disappointed by the DJ's selection, including those of us who actually have specific tastes.
I don't have an issue with pop, or Robbie, or Jennifer Lopez, or any of that stuff meant for the masses. But playing these kinds of Muslim sounds or Thompson is just plain primitive, regardless of whether they are considered hits or not!

Honestly, the best thing they played over these last three days was Vangelis 😁 and even then, it was just the shift supervisor playing it during the early morning hours. I mean, what can you do? During the big break, you either head outside or just put on your Walkman. On top of that, the speakers are so blown out that when you combine a total disaster with those terrible speakers, you end up with 👎

A few times, I’ve happened to walk down the hall and heard nothing but trashy songs about how all women are basically nothing but trouble (honestly, I can’t recall a single specific lyric if it kills me!)

Some people would play stuff everyone actually enjoys—like the Peppers—but my memory is failing me on the rest🙄

But generally speaking: there was everything from Calvin Harris and ET to Karma, Justin Timberlake, Pink, and Jennifer Lopez. You’d even catch Nirvana, Pearl Jam, or the Rolling Stones occasionally😲

Now that I think about it... do they even play music from the big eras anymore? Uhhh😳
