I watched a movie a long time ago that really stuck with me, but I can't seem to find it anywhere, so if anyone happens to know 🤷

Contrary to popular rumors, no 6-hours long director's cut, ever existed. The only "director's cut" of the film was the one shown theatrically; Lynch never had a hand in any other version of Dune. Lynch's original intention was for Dune to have been about 3+ hours long. To that end, about 5 hours was shot. This is also confirmed by author Frank Herbert wrote in the introduction to the book "Eyes". It would be impossible for a 6-hour version to exist and even a 5-hour Dune would mean the inclusion of many scenes never intended for the final version (for reasons of redundancy, etc.). It is only necessary to read any of the final scripts for the film to realize that there was never any intention of making Dune more than 4 hours in length at the very most: the script for anything more just was never there.

Karen Smith9 said:As far as official releases go, there's really only one slightly longer cut—about 40 minutes extra—and honestly, Lynch never had a hand in any other version of Dune.

Actually, it’s somewhat true, but just not in the way you described it.
😳
Lynch never had a hand in any other version of Dune (referring to both the 177 and 189-minute versions).
😁
So, what is really going on here?
The 177-minute version and the 189-minute version are essentially the exact same movie; the only difference is that the 189-minute cut was aired on TV as a two-part miniseries.
Later, that 189-minute version was ported to DVD and trimmed down into the 177-minute version—which is the standard theatrical release you usually find—though depending on the distributor, it might occasionally still be released as a two-part miniseries (which is quite rare).
The only things removed from the 177-minute version are the flashback scenes (basically the start of the second episode which briefly recaps the first), a duplicate intro, and a duplicate credit sequence. Everything else was simply stitched together into a single film without interruptions.
Depending on who publishes the DVD, you might get the 177-minute film or the 189-minute miniseries, but there isn't a single scene in the 189-minute version that isn't also present in the 177-minute one.
In other words, there is no longer version on the market that exceeds the 177/189-minute runtime.
There you have it.
😳😁
P.S.
When you download movies online, they might be split across two discs. That absolutely does not mean you've found the miniseries; it most likely means the popular film version has been split up for easier uploading (it could even be spread across five discs, depending on whoever is doing the upload).
EDIT: The most famous extended version found on two DVDs is definitely not the miniseries. One disc holds the original 137-minute version, while the second disc contains the 177-minute extended version.
This is that famous 190-minute version (the miniseries).

there is a double extended edition featuring both versions of the film

And yeah, that 190-minute one is the TV cut, so it exists. As for a 4+ hour version, that was supposed to be a fourth version.

feralorca82 said:Nah, that runtime includes the extras. Just an FYI, I actually have—well, I used to have—the 190-minute TV cut. I just need to check if I gave it away to someone, since I was never really a huge fan of this movie anyway.

How on earth could I give you a partial transfer when I'm dealing with this stomach flu? That would be absolutely disastrous!!!
😠😠😠
By the way, did you know that PAL versions of films have fewer frames, so they’re usually shorter than the NTSC version of the same movie?
I remember one time I actually recorded a censored version of a film that ended up being longer than the original!
You're wondering how?
I was recording it off the TV onto a VHS, and there were commercials playing in between scenes.
😳
Quote: Alan Smithee version the 189-minute
The 189-minute "Alan Smithee" version was released in 1989. Prepared originally for syndicated television by Universal's MCA Division (and later seen on basic cable television networks) for a two-night broadcast, it was prepared without either participation or authorization by David Lynch. It includes a new narrator and a new prologue with a montage of painted pictures. It also reinserts approximately 40 minutes of cut footage, extending some existing scenes and adding others that were, until this version, entirely unseen. This television version also includes some repeated shots throughout the film
That is exactly the version I have sitting right here.
And it arrives... wow, get this, it's spread across two DVDs.
Eric Collins5 said:That is exactly the version I have sitting right here.
It is basically identical to the 177-minute version, except this one includes those flashbacks and double end credits.
There isn't a single solitary scene in here that wasn't already in the 177-minute cut; some parts just happen to repeat themselves. And it arrives... wow, get this, it's spread across two DVDs.
I give up...
😠😠😠
EDIT:
Just so you know, I have never liked that avatar of yours!!!

feralorca82 said:But I never actually said that. All I said was there’s a third 190-minute version (the TV cut, which I happened to get my hands on), and you jumped down my throat claiming I was wrong.
Exactly, the 177-minute version is just that one, filtered down. Did I ever say that wasn't true? I even dropped a link proving it.
Calm down a bit.
EDIT:
You're just jealous of my avatar.😉
