Shoutout to the Cocaine Nights mod team!

So, I’ve been scrolling through this subforum, reading all these complaints about what the mods have done or haven't done lately.

Everything is fine with me.

I’ve definitely lost my cool more than a few times myself.
In my relatively short time hanging out on these boards, I’ve felt that flash of anger toward certain moderators—just because they let their own human flaws get in the way of things.

But so what?!!!

I used to sit there thinking, "What on earth is wrong with this moderator?" Is he just totally out of touch with reality?!

Anyway... more to come...

Look, I get it. By the next morning, the irritation over some random ban for "spamming," trolling, flame wars, or whatever other nonsense labels they throw around usually fades away. Those kinds of petty penalties just drive people away from communities like this.

What I’m actually trying to say is that the guy mentioned in the thread title is actually an emotionally mature individual. He deserves some credit. He doesn't just hand out mindless bans for trolling, spamming, or being slightly off-topic. Instead, he handles things with the composure of a real teacher—a grown-up. He issues warnings, people actually respect him, he gets intelligent humor, and he manages a huge crowd of active users without breaking a sweat... I shouldn't praise him too much, though.

Now, Ms. fairy isn't a bad person, but she really ought to spend more time over at Cocaine Nights.

But seriously, that guy is a rare breed of moderator. He has incredible self-control and he's honest—which I assume go hand in hand. He doesn't go off like some trigger-happy gunslinger with a chip on his shoulder just because nobody's shot him yet...

If that moderator ever decides to flag me, I'll know I actually messed up. I won't go crying to anyone about it. They're hard to find, those types...

If only he were my brother-in-law😁

The whole point of this thread is for the benefit of everyone—to educate the mods, the regular posters, and even the lurkers who just watch the chaos unfold.

I don't care about your opinion on who the "best" moderator is. What I want to know is how YOU feel when you get hit with a completely senseless penalty—something that, in the grand scheme of your actual life, means absolutely nothing!!!

Look, mods are just people. Sometimes they're having a rough day and mess up, sometimes they're totally fine. There's a whole mix of them, but at the end of the day, they're human and they make mistakes. Personally, I've felt the sting of a ban before, and yeah, sometimes it feels angry or biased. Other times, I realize the mods actually had a point, and trying to see things from their side really helps. Honestly, nobody would volunteer to be a mod for any kind of money. I think that sums it up. Maybe it also helps to realize that whatever a mod or an admin decides, someone is going to hate it. There will always be "happy campers" and "sore losers." Seriously, props to the mods who have to manage all this chaos in the policy section. It’s easy to talk, but try stepping into a mod's shoes for a second—your anger might cool down pretty fast. You've got decent users here, sure, but you also have these professional victims who blame everyone else for everything. No matter how objective a moderator tries to be, those types will never accept that they actually earned their ban. Treating a ban like a personal vendetta is just a massive waste of energy. It's like shooting blanks. Sure, you should stand up for yourself, but do it without the drama, the brown-nosing, or the aggressive attacks. Just state why you think the decision was wrong and wait for the mod to rule. Anything else is just burning daylight—unless you're one of those hardcore forum addicts who doesn't have a life outside this screen, but that's a whole different conversation. A moderator is like a referee in a football game; they might let some rough play slide, but the most important thing is that they apply the same rules to everyone. That’s what makes a good mod: being fair, not playing favorites, and staying impartial. Maybe I'm being too optimistic thinking all mods have those qualities—definitely not—but I'll give two examples. Even though Čikastrile and mandragora and I don't see eye to eye on everything, we still managed to function perfectly fine on this forum after my bans. By the way, when you do get banned, you're basically forced to send a PM to the mod to explain yourself. If you go in swinging from the jump, you need to be prepared to lose. Don't go begging for mercy.

When there's someone to tear down, people will churn out hundreds of posts on a single thread, racking up tens of thousands of views. But when someone actually deserves a bit of credit? They go completely unnoticed, along with their entire discussion...

Take certain individuals, for instance. They manage to climb the ladder in their "online" careers, despite having shown a complete lack of self-respect—or respect for the moderators—through their behavior and posts. And then there's the senseless banning, which personally gets under my skin, though I couldn't quite say why...

I suppose, and I'm fairly certain of this, that all sorts of insecure types find a way to express themselves in this digital world. It's why I don't even care for big tennis... because I can't trip anyone up fairly, or shove an opponent, or hit them...

Well, within the rules of the sport, at least...

Everything here seems to be bottom-of-the-barrel stuff, far below any decent level of human communication...

All I need now is to open accounts on Facebook and Twitter ☕

After that, I won't even need a gun to end it all...

With that one act, I'll have already finished everything...

In my opinion, Cordelia, Scimmia, lavica 02, gotterdamerung, herp, Mayki muški, Deedy, and sTony are truly excellent moderators.

These are the individuals who, at least from my perspective, have never once acted condescendingly, rudely, or with an inflated sense of self-importance. Even when I’ve been issued warnings by people like Cordelia, I still maintain that they are perfectly fine moderators. They possess that rare balance of being able to engage in lighthearted banter while knowing exactly when to step in and maintain order. I find them to be quite reliable.😁

Regarding the question, I couldn't say. Out of all the possible warnings or bans, I have only ever received one minor infraction. It was a bit of a shock when I noticed it. My innocence is gone forever. 😁

Some people just never grasp that being civil works way better and has much longer-lasting effects than just trying to flex your dominance🙄

It isn't always enough, but you have to know when to use it—though that requires having the right mindset first

I am jumping in right now to back that praise for @Gary James88... Honestly, I mostly know him from those deep philosophy debates on Reddit, but he's such an incredibly sharp and informed conversationalist that I have full faith he'll be a fantastic moderator too.

Alright, folks, since everyone seems to be jumping in to give out praise—I might as well join in! I want to give a shout-out to both of them, the fairy and Gary James88.

I appreciate Gary James88 partly because he actually took the time to back my post 🤣 😍 yesterday, but more importantly, it's because he has such remarkably coherent insights and always tries to look at things from multiple angles—you know, seeing all those different layers. He also never misses a beat when it comes to the social side of things, which I personally find quite refreshing.

As for the fairy, she is really impressive when it comes to offering practical advice and breaking down the various complexities of whatever problem someone brings up in their opening post.

Both of them are just so level-headed—honestly, if they weren't this calm, it would feel really out of place on an American Psychology forum. 😲

As far as I'm concerned, the admins and mods are all good; it's just that the admins aren't online nearly as much.

The mods over at Psychology are actually top-tier; they consistently drop high-quality posts and keep things running smoothly without being heavy-handed about the rules.

Thanks for the kind words, though I shouldn't let it go to my head—I might start thinking I run the show, the mods, the PDFs, everything... 😳

Truth is, I'm not around here nearly as much as the fairy, who does most of the heavy lifting, so I'll pass the praise along to her.

I don't give much thought to the moderators while I'm typing. It would be too much of a distraction.
I'm posting today because I’ve grown genuinely fond of this Reddit community and being part of it. Honestly, I can't imagine how I'd spend my time over the next few months if I weren't active here.
I was banned once before due to sheer ignorance—I responded to an insult with one of my own, not realizing I should have just reported it instead. But after actually reading through all the rules, I’ve been browsing without any issues. I don't find the moderation to be overly harsh. There is room to express my opinions creatively, socialize, learn things I didn't know, figure out where to shop for specific items, and joke around. It's quite satisfying.
Anyway, keep up the flexible approach.
