Case 39 (2009)

It’s an okay flick if you aren't going in with massive expectations. Personally? It wasn't a total disaster for me.

Renée is undoubtedly one of the most talented actresses out there—though, if I’m being honest, she was perhaps just a hair above the rest of the cast in terms of sheer caliber!
The scene involving the Boogeyman is easily the most unsettling part of the whole thing for me.
And frankly, I have to wonder about those parents—how could they be so completely ill-equipped to handle their own child?

I’m actually relieved it doesn't rely on cheap jump scares to get by, because despite some subpar acting and a few other minor gripes, it’s a decent horror flick overall. Renée spent about half the movie looking completely vacuous—honestly, she acted like she was tripping on something, maybe some heavy pills or a bit of cocaine... And that little girl? She was supposed to be terrifying, but she just wasn't. It was a poorly written character and a pretty weak performance to boot.
