Hey there,
So, I’ve got a well on my property that provides all the water for my house—everything from washing dishes to drinking. Before I started using it, I had the water tested by the local health department, and they recommended treating it with Izosan G because of some coliform bacteria issues.
The label on the Izosan bottle says to use 2g per 1000L for drinking water. My well has an 80cm diameter and about 5m of water in it, so I’m estimating roughly 2500L of water total. That means I should be adding about 5g of Izosan per treatment.
I'm a little worried I might be doing this wrong. Right now, I dissolve those 5g in a small bottle of water until the granules are totally gone, and then I pour that mixture straight into the well. I usually do this twice a month. They told me to do it after heavy rain and stuff like that. Is that actually the right way to go about it?
Basically, I treat my well like a 2500L tank that’s constantly being topped up with fresh water. My goal is to disinfect the whole volume at once, knowing the concentration will drop as new water flows in. Does this approach make sense, or should I be doing something else? I also have a mechanical filtration system in the house to catch sand and grit. Please let me know if you guys have any experience with this—I’m really curious how everyone else manages their wells. Thanks!
