My mistake. I thought that was just cynicism. :-)

Nah, I'm just pointing out how much sense the ending of Gran Torino actually makes...

rustyscout34 said:Personally, I thought all The Ring movies were great. Even the third part had a perfect fantasy ending, though I know plenty of purists and fans of Tolkien will probably argue against it (they miss the showdown with Sauron and the whole industrialization angle, which honestly would've been a pretty bad ending in my book). Thinking about this topic, some random movie just popped into my head: I Am Legend with Will Smith. Not only did the ending let me down (including that alternative version), but the entire second half—all that religious nonsense with the daughter and the fighting monsters... man, the movie could have been so much better if they just stuck to the book. Cast Away with Tom Hanks also had a totally crappy Hollywood ending. I mean, who actually falls for the joke that after a dangerous ocean voyage on a raft, you're suddenly saved and perfectly adjusted to civilization after just one camera cut, despite having spent months talking to a VOLLEYBALL!?! War of the Worlds with Cruise started off great too; the plot was developing nicely until it hit that endgame stretch filled with mindless bombs, action, and an ultimately disappointing happy ending (the idea that aliens traveling at light speed in spaceships were killed by microbes (!) — if that isn't the peak of stupidity, I don't know what is. Sure, it's like that in the 1898 book, but science has progressed since then, and so has the average viewer...). Batman Begins also really disappointed me with its finale. The movie spends the whole time on character development and psychological depth, only to turn into a brainless rock concert full of flashy explosions and stupid train scenes. I'll also mention Knowing which I watched recently, featuring Cage. It starts off so well and builds tension, only to force in the whole formula involving aliens, some crazy lady and her daughter, Noah's ark, Adam and Eve... it was just a disaster and the epitome of stupidity. I can think of others, but I'll add them later.

The ending was just dreadful, truly. The first act of the movie actually holds so much promise with a really solid plot, but that final third is enough to drive anyone crazy; it’s simultaneously boring and incredibly frustrating. And don't even get me started on the whole Adam and Eva bit 😂—what a joke.

I keep thinking about that one scene where Cage is searching for the kid out in the cornfields, and then suddenly a massive spacecraft appears, followed by this overly theatrical farewell and an even more dramatic departure of the ship, all set to music that completely misses the mark.

All in all, it was a huge disappointment. 👎

It’s Halloween featuring McDowell in the lead role.

I find "Days Later" to be an excellent film—though I must admit, the ending left me somewhat disappointed.
That sudden sense of idyll: the sewing of the shroud, the sound of a plane overhead, them running through the meadow while waving those cloths... it was all quite much. It felt less like the conclusion to a zombie flick and more like the finale of some sweeping melodrama.

I’m with you on that, though I wouldn't go so far as to call the movie a masterpiece.🤷 🙂

Just wanted to shake things up here a bit. Personally, I thought the ending of the Los Angeles Lakers was totally solid, but I’ve noticed a lot of my buddies really can't get past one thing: the fact that Norton and Pitt are playing the exact same character...

Eastern Promises...

Fine, I get it. The whole point isn't really the plot itself, but rather the deep dive into the psychology of the mobsters and the people they prey on...
That said, I still think the writers could have squeezed out one or two more details to give the movie a more polished, complete feel. 🤷

Off-topic: Viggo is absolutely phenomenal in this. 👍

Of all the movies I've sat through lately—Law Abiding Citizen comes to mind—it was a solid film, despite having a total garbage ending. 👎

Man, it’s kind of a chore trying to dig through my memory for this, but *Knowing* immediately jumps to mind. I mean, the whole thing follows that typical alien trope, sure, but that ending? They absolutely wrecked you with that finale.

I actually really liked it. It was refreshing—kind of unconventional, which is a nice change of pace, I guess. And then I woke up 😁

I honestly can't decide if that ending was a total disaster or absolute genius 🤷😁
It’s probably just because the first hour of that movie is basically flawless, but then, unfortunately, everything just starts sliding downhill after that point...

Even "12 Angry Men" left me feeling a bit let down, you know? Like, you spend an hour and a half watching this one guy who seems totally set in his ways, convinced he'll never budge, and then suddenly he flips his whole stance in like two seconds flat... Not to be confusing though, because "12 Angry Men" is still a complete masterpiece overall...

I’ve gotta say, Law Abiding Citizen is a total knockout, honestly a fantastic ride right up until those final ten minutes when it just falls off a cliff into that typical Hollywood cliché ending we've all seen a thousand times before. 👎
