I'm curious, since it's late: what is the actual health impact of sleeping without a pillow? I am not asking about comfort levels. Specifically, regarding sleeping face down—is it more or less stressful for the cervical spine to use a pillow versus going without one? I have the same question for side sleepers. 👍

I'm not entirely sure, though I personally tend to ditch the pillow altogether when I sleep on my stomach—or at least I flatten my standard one until it's practically flush with the mattress 😁. When I sleep on my side, however, I always use an orthopedic pillow, as I've found it quite uncomfortable to let my head hang too low, yet I also dislike having my head elevated significantly above my shoulders when lying face down 🤷

Do you find sleeping without a pillow works for you? Does it leave you with any neck or back pain in the morning?
Maybe you have some weaker muscle groups in those areas that require extra support?

If none of that applies, just let me know...

Personally, I sleep on my side with a pillow, on my stomach without one, and I don't sleep on my back. My muscles seem to be fine.🤷

I always sleep without a pillow—usually face down on my stomach—and honestly, I haven't run into a single issue with it so far.🤷

Look, buddy, you really shouldn't think that’s the healthiest way to go about things. 😛

The head really needs a decent amount of support, especially if you’re one of those people who sleeps on their side. You can't just let it tilt all night. I mean, we all know why that old actor used to wear those medical neck collars—it wasn't just for show. It's about stability.

You really need to break that habit... the second you turn back, you start leaning toward an arcsin (0.01745240643728351281941897851632). It’s a recipe for disaster. You end up overstretching your neck muscles and misaligning your cervical spine, which just triggers a whole domino effect of more issues down the road...
