I was at work today when a wasp stung me right on my thumb.πŸ™‚
I managed to swat it away, and at first, it just looked like a tiny little red dot. But then, after just a few seconds, my whole body started tingling, my face felt all prickly, and I got the chillsβ€”even though it was a scorching 90 degrees out. I felt really dizzy, too.
A white swelling popped up almost instantly. After about half an hour, I could finally move my hand again and the numbness subsided slightly, but then the swelling really kicked in. It happened around 6:00 PM; now it’s 11:30 PM, and my hand is swollen to the size of a tennis ball. It’s still tingling and hurting quite a bit. 😒
I didn't get home from work until 11:00, so I only just got around to icing it.

By the way, I’ve been stung by wasps maybe 7 or 8 times in my life, and nothing has ever felt like this. Usually, there's just a little swelling, it hurts for a bit, and that's it. But this...?🀷

When is this swelling going to go down?πŸ™‚ Why is my entire hand so swollen when the sting was just on my thumb? And why does it feel so incredibly hot to the touch? Are these all signs of an allergic reaction?

No, for real though, what if I actually need this swelling to go down? I have to head into work tomorrow and I'm honestly not sure how I'm going to manage with this...

Sounds like you’re dealing with a wasp sting allergy. What you're describing is definitely an allergic reaction..
I actually got stung once while I was out at Walmart, but I handled it pretty quickly. I just asked the produce guy to slice a red onion in half for meβ€”apparently, putting it on the sting helps draw out the swelling and numbs the area. It worked for me. You probably need to take an antihistamine to deal with the reaction, something like Benadryl or Claritin.
It might be a good idea to take a day off work until this clears up.β˜•

I made it into work today, though my leg is still pretty swollen and painful. Everything around the sting site has puffed up, and the area where I was bitten has spread quite a bitβ€”plus, there's this gross fluid (maybe pus?) oozing out of the hole. My mom is insisting I head to the doctor, but I’m thinking (or really hoping) it might just clear up on its own. Do you guys think it will? πŸ™‚

Hmmmm. Sounds like an excessive local reaction since you aren't showing systemic symptoms. Use cold compresses, take some Advil or something similar. It wouldn't be a bad idea to actually head to the doctor, though; they might need to prescribe an oral antihistamine and check if an infection is starting to set in...
