Dark circles under my eyes?

So I’m starting this thread because I’ve been scouring the internet and honestly, I can’t find a single decent answer to the thing that’s driving me crazy right now😢
Basically, last night my dad woke up with this weird bruise under his eye. It looked like some kind of deep, dark purple swelling at first, and when he poked at it with his finger, it sort of lightened up a bit🤷
We both figured it would just chill out and fade by this morning, but nope. Instead, it’s actually spreading down his face and it looks pretty gnarly, not gonna lie😲😲

This has never happened to him before, so I'm reaching out—has anyone here dealt with something similar?? Does anyone have any clue what might be going on🤷, like, what could even cause this😕

Oh, and one more thing—just to be clear—he wasn't in any fights, didn't trip, didn't hit his face on anything... nothing. It just appeared out of nowhere????? 😲

Did you actually take a hit under your eye, or did this just pop up out of nowhere?
Based on how you described it, it sounds like a hematoma.

but they're claiming they didn't hit anything🤷, and as far as I can tell, they really didn't...

Man, it looks like a bruise to me too, but they're refusing to go to the doctor. Seriously, old folks can be so stubborn sometimes.🙄
It's right there in the corner under the eye, basically next to the nose, and now it's starting to spread downward.😕

Are you currently taking any blood thinners or anticoagulants?
The fact that it’s migrating downward is actually just basic physics at work—gravity is pulling the fluid down, plain and simple😉.
It’s most likely nothing to worry about; we're probably looking at some minor broken capillaries or something similar
. When you get these kinds of small bleeds on the face, they tend to absorb back into the skin incredibly fast without leaving a trace

When did this whole thing actually kick off? Did the scale of the issue intensify as time went on, and more importantly, is it still escalating right now?

It kicked off the day before yesterday and picked up a bit yesterday.😢
I haven't caught a glimpse of it today, so I can't say for sure, but as soon as I spot it, I'll give you guys an update.
