Where the Wild Things Are (2009)

At the AMC in the mall, they've got that cardboard cutout thing on display the whole time. I really hope they don't just leave it there forever.

Just finished watching... it was alright. I'm actually glad I went in blind without knowing anything about it other than who directed it; it made it much easier to stay objective. It wasn't until halfway through that I finally realized which character from The Sopranos he was playing here. 7 out of 10.

He isn't playing him, he's just borrowing the voice. 🙂 And really, that's all you thought of it, just "okay"? 🤷

Voice acting is just another form of acting. It isn’t simply "someone reading lines from a script"; it’s about an actor actually inhabiting a character.

And why on earth would you expect anything more than just okay? Kaufman didn't write the screenplay here—Spike did. The dialogue isn't weak, per se, but it doesn't exactly leap off the page either.

As for those scenes that feel like they were ripped straight out of WrestleMania, complete with all the shouting and ecstatic screaming, they just don't do it for me. I suppose that's that "childlike" element everyone talks about, but I personally couldn't find a way to connect with it.

Just finished watching the movie, and man, it was excellent
The characters are fantastic, especially Ira-Carol-KW

It’s such a great film; I’m actually heading back to catch it again today

Perhaps it's because I grew up watching The Muppet Show, where

hm, well, that would be me, for instance. I've been going to the theater with them for years now. 😢 😉. We finally made it to the PG-13 stage. Hallelujah!
I'll be seeing this one with the kids sometime soon.

Caught it yesterday and, honestly, it caught me off guard. I went in expecting Jonze to have folded to the studio execs—given that $100 million budget—and churned out some mainstream crowd-pleaser, but he didn't. This isn't trying to please anyone; it’s not quite for adults and it’s certainly not just for kids. Visually, it's stunning, but for my taste, it feels pretty cold. That said, Jonze fans will likely love it.
