Does anyone happen to have a general idea regarding the typical costs associated with a hospital stay? I am trying to determine if one is billed for the surgical procedure itself as a separate line item, or if the charges are simply calculated on a per-diem basis for the duration of the stay, and so forth.

$19 It’s usually a daily thing
I think the surgery isn't billed as a separate standalone fee🤷

if we're talking about a longer hospital stay—honestly, I’d really suggest looking into getting some supplemental insurance coverage😉

I have a bit of a silly question here, but I figured I might as well ask...

Standard deductibles don't actually cover hospital bills, do they?

Nicholas Hughes2, I appreciate you. I just need to get at least a rough idea of what we’re looking at, given that I don't have any supplemental insurance coverage to fall back on.

With supplemental insurance, you aren't paying a dime out of pocket at the hospital,
but without that extra $19 coverage, you're looking at daily costs that cover everything from specialist visits and meals to meds and surgeries—basically the whole works.

I guess if someone suddenly ends up admitted without that coverage—say, they get hit with some serious diagnosis—it’s probably worth just paying for the supplement right then and there, even though there's usually a 15-day waiting period before it actually kicks in. ☕
And you don't even have to file a formal claim yourself. 😉
