Elizabeth Garcia2 said:Parodies basically work like this: you take dozens of scenes from recent movies—films actually made by people with imagination, skill, and the genuine talent to create something original—then you just tweak one little detail so it becomes "hilariously funny" to people who can't tell the difference between quality cinema and garbage... and then you market the hell out of it in major US theaters, specifically targeting those mindless American teenagers.

Since I don't fit into any of those categories, and since stupid, low-brow humor just doesn't do anything for me, I really don't think there's any actual value in it. I mean, I know there isn't.

Honestly, I’d much rather sit through my 20th rewatch of something original by W. Allen, Billy Wilder, Charlie Chaplin, Menzel, Jim Jarmusch, DiCill, the Coen brothers, or even Monty Python (who don't just do parodies). That stuff actually has value...

It’s a pathetic genre, even if Mel Brooks is its leading figure. Just pathetic...

I think you should just stop. You're incredibly boring and exhausting.

Yeah, I’ve always had a soft spot for a good dark film, such as

Look, interpret Pythonesque humor however you want, but at its core, it's a parody... a parody of history, specific events, and plenty of other things... just remember their parody of the Packinpahov style and films...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M1-NpyaOWV0

Honestly, I don't even want to argue with idiots who think they've mastered all the world's wisdom just because they skimmed a few encyclopedias...🙄 I have some advice for you... get real before you start any argument. You think you know me and my level of knowledge? Don't bet on it, kid...👍
The fact is, you're just looking down on parodies because you don't personally care for the concept, and that's fine—that's your right. But saying parodies are the absolute bottom of cinematic art is a stretch; there are way too many quality comedies out there for me to agree with that. And as for that point about famous names... LOL.😂 Does having a big name automatically mean a movie is good, regardless of the genre?? I wouldn't say so.👍

Sorry, but I'm pretty sure this thread isn't actually about those kinds of movies—it’s more about parodies of specific films... unless I totally missed the point, which is also possible.
Honestly, comparing a true Monty Python fan to the Scary Movie franchise—or any other garbage like that—is straight-up blasphemy.
Top Secret is actually an awesome flick—it’s such a great parody that pokes fun at basically every movie cliché out there—but honestly... Meet the Spartans, Scary Movie, Epic Movie, and all those other ones? Yeah, they totally deserve to be called trash.
Like I said at the start of this thread—yeah, parodies are total trash. They're just made by people who lack the actual creativity to build something from scratch—if they had any real guts, they’d make their own comedies instead of just mocking someone else's work... but honestly, they just aren't capable of it.

Honestly, arguing about them feels like a waste of breath. Personally, I’m always down for a solid parody—stuff like *the empty gun* or even *Immortal* works for me. I can always revisit *the Godfather*, *Robin Hood*, or those guys in spandex, or maybe an *omnipotent mission*. As for those newer parodies or anything leaning towards a *dark film* style? They just don't really hit the mark for me.

I absolutely love pretty much everything out there, except for those Epic movies and all this recent garbage being churned out, and honestly, I can't stand Mel Brooks either because he just isn't my thing at all.

Look, a parody is a parody... whether it's mocking some polished Hollywood flicks, historical events, Bush's politics, or whatever else.
At the end of the day, nobody’s out here making real satire—well, I’m certainly not—even if Elizabeth Garcia2 keeps at it, along with all those Monty Python fans and these modern-day parodies. I think we can all finally agree that "parody" movies like the Scary Movie franchise, Date Movie, Superhero Movie, Meet the Spartans, and all that other crap are just straight-up garbage.
Dismissing all parodies as one big pile of trash just because they don't fit your specific taste is unfair and honestly pretty stupid. Look, the concept isn't groundbreaking—it doesn't have to be. It just needs to be funny. And trust me, making a parody that actually lands is way harder than people think, otherwise we wouldn't be stuck dealing with the garbage we saw today.
Old-school parodies are just better. They’re actually clever, genuinely funny, and the creators actually understood how to pull off a parody. It’s pretty stupid to claim this genre lacks talent or that all these directors are bottom-of-the-barrel hacks. If you think that, you’re clearly ignoring legends like the Monty Python fans, Mel Brooks, Rob Reiner, and John Landis, who all shaped the genre.
Plus, you also have to account for the fact that some of those old-school parodies are actually highly acclaimed, top-tier movies... like...

Young Frankenstein
IMDb has it at an 8.0, and it’s sitting pretty at #236 on the Top 250 list based on user votes.
Rotten Tomatoes says it's sitting at a solid 93%.

Blazing Saddles
IMDb says it’s a 7.8/10.
Rotten Tomatoes says it's sitting at an 89%.

The Producers
IMDb says it's a 7.7. Not bad, I guess.
Rotten Tomatoes has it at 93%. Not bad.

Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery
IMDb says it's a 7.1/10.
Rotten Tomatoes says it’s sitting at 70%. Not bad, I guess.

The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad!
IMDb says it's a 7.6/10.
Rotten Tomatoes says it's sitting at 88%. Not bad.

Airplane!
IMDb says it's a 7.8/10.
Rotten Tomatoes has it at a 98%.

Hot Shots!
IMDb says 6.4/10. Honestly, it’s a little low compared to the others, but it’s still a damn good score.
Rotten Tomatoes says it's sitting at 81%. Not bad.

Galaxy Quest
IMDb says 7.2/10.
Rotten Tomatoes says it's sitting at a solid 90%.

So... if we're calling these movies total garbage based on what critics and audiences say, then The Godfather and The Shawshank Redemption don't deserve any special treatment either.

Anyway, before I wrap this up, I gotta mention three other killer recent parodies that nobody else seems to have brought up yet...

Hot Fuzz - a parody of action movies in general... once again, the ratings and reviews speak for themselves
imdb - 8.0/10
rottentomatoes.com - 90%

Shaun of the Dead - a parody of zombie horror... and just like before, the critics and scores tell you everything you need to know...
imdb - 8.0/10 + ranked #245 on the top 250 list by audience votes
rottentomatoes.com - 91%

so

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist - a parody of kung fu flicks... slightly lower rated, but absolutely hilarious... nothing like the garbage they make today.

Whoa, hold on there! We really shouldn't be throwing the Scary Movie franchise and Epic movies into the same bucket because they aren't even in the same league! You see, those Epic movies were directed by Friedberg and Seltzer, whereas Zucker is actually the one responsible for Hero Movie and Scary Movie. And while I'll happily admit that anything directed by that duo is totally unwatchable, Zucker's films aren't even close to being that bad; honestly, they actually have their own little moments of brilliance here and there! Which is definitely something you can't say about F&S or that much-hyped Simon Pegg you brought up, who is also just total trash.

Why not... and besides, only the first one is worth watching... the rest... God forbid.🙄🤷

First off... Zucker's lost his touch lately... basically he just started churning them out one after another, which was a bad move. Second, Superhero Movie wasn't even directed by him, it was Craig Mazin. And third... yeah, right... all the info in my previous post pretty much proves my point... LOL

But fine... everyone's entitled to their SUBJECTIVE opinion... because OBJECTIVELY speaking... Simon Pegg's work would eat Zucker's last three movies for breakfast.👍

Monty Python fans certainly know how to parody. It isn't always the case, but I suppose a good portion of their sketches are direct parodies—the Sam Peckinpah sketch being the most obvious example, though there are plenty of others. I mean, the entirety of Life of Brian is essentially a parody of the story of Jesus, just as the whole of Holy Grail serves as a parody of the tale of King Arthur.

And that is saying nothing of something like Galaxy Quest, or Shaun of the Dead, or Hot Fuzz.

Of course, one must actually possess the skill to parody effectively. If a film simply boils down to a repetitive sequence of scenes relying on cheap toilet humor, then I guess it is inevitably garbage.

I mean, I get it. Totally understandable. People like you just can't handle someone who actually takes a stand and can back it up with logic. You’re basically operating at a ten-year-old level here... if someone shares an opinion you don't like, your entire vocabulary shrinks down to stuff like "You're boring" or "You're a brat." It's like you can't even come up with anything remotely substantial...

Even Euripides saw this coming way back in the day...
"If you speak reasonably to a fool, he will call you a fool."

I honestly don't see why, in a thread titled "Do you guys like parodies?", you're trying to make this about my character just because I don't care for them...
If that's how you jump to conclusions about who I am, then you're definitely too quick to pull the trigger... it's pretty irresponsible, really...
Besides, those kinds of personal attacks shouldn't even be part of the conversation in the first place...

I honestly feel like parodies are kind of a waste of time, especially since it seems like every single movie released these days already has its own version out there. Plus, if you haven't actually sat down to watch the original film the parody is poking fun at, the whole experience just ends up feeling like a total loss of time.

I recently downloaded the Epic Movie, haven't actually sat down to watch it yet, just caught a few quick glimpses of some scenes and immediately regretted hitting download... such a waste of precious time... parodies are nothing more than cheap shots at some truly great films...

I honestly just live for parodies. Especially those ones featuring Nilson—man, those were gold. Rest in peace, legend.
