U2 3D [2008]

I haven't caught the movie yet, but I think I'll get around to it eventually—maybe. ☕

I watched it last night, and honestly, it blew my expectations out of the water. It was just so incredibly well done 😍

When that idiot claims U2 lacks charisma even under candlelight, he isn't offering a critique; he's just admitting he doesn't like U2, which is evident from the rest of his writing. Furthermore, I have to wonder where you were sitting in the theater. For 3D, seating matters differently than it does for 2D. The optimal experience is found in the first half of the auditorium. I have confirmed this in every city where I viewed it: Denver, Budapest, and Chicago. In Denver, it was rows 5 or 6; I can't recall the specific row in Budapest without digging up a ticket, but in Chicago, it was also around the 5th or 6th row. When a friend and I saw it for the first time, we thought it was incredible—we actually went straight back for the next showing. It seems you aren't much of a U2 fan, because they are decent, but the group I watched the film with travels the world for them, and they called the film phenomenal. They even compared the IMAX experience to being at a live concert. One must consider that the core purpose of this film is to present a 3D concert experience, not some standard documentary about U2.

I actually sat down and watched the film tonight, and I have to say, it was one of the most incredible experiences I've had in a theater. The 3D technology is nothing short of breathtaking; when Bono reached out his hand, I felt like I was right there with him. To be perfectly honest, I felt less like a spectator and more like I was attending a live concert.
Now, full disclosure: I am a massive fan of U2. "Massive" doesn't quite cover it—they are easily my favorite band of all time and they are constantly on my playlist.
But even if you aren't exactly a die-hard U2 follower, you really ought to experience this work, if only to witness what that 3D tech can achieve.

All that stuff about whether I'm a "real" U2 fan, or how your buddies travel the globe for them and think the movie is amazing... none of that actually matters when it comes to judging the quality of the film itself. It's irrelevant.

Just enjoy yourself.

Three whole pages of comments and you’re the only one hating on this movie. Let people enjoy things. You don't need to quote your own posts just to make your "critique" feel more heavy-handed. It’s obvious nobody agrees with you, or at least very few people do. Just deal with it.

It’s essentially a concert in condensed form. Have you actually watched any of their live sets on DVD? There isn't much difference. This is just a filmed concert being projected in an IMAX 3D theater. Nothing more, nothing less. If someone is looking for a cinematic masterpiece in a concert film, that’s their own mistake. As for me, I enjoyed it. Thanks for asking.
