My PC keeps turning itself on!

As far as I know, there aren't any ghosts in my apartment, yet my PC has randomly powered itself on several times now. I just got back from a trip and the computer is already running. No one has been near the place for days, so I have no idea when it decided to "wake up"... What could be causing this, and how can I prevent these kinds of glitches? 🤔

Check your Device Manager. Look at the Network adapter settings under Power Management and see if "Allow this device to wake the computer" is checked. Do the same for any other hardware components.

Also, you might find similar settings buried in the BIOS.

I had something similar happen right before my ancient monitor finally gave up the ghost.

People on the forums suggested that my PC constantly rebooting itself might mean the motherboard was dying.
I didn't really bother fixing it until the monitor suddenly died on me.
It didn't just shut off normally, though; it went like this 🤦

So, I ended up replacing everything—the PC, the monitor, and all the cables.

I even called an electrician to make sure my wall outlet wasn't acting up.🤣

Once I swapped everything out, the whole setup worked perfectly again.

It could honestly be anything at all, really, but if you’re planning on being away from home for a while, why not just unplug it entirely? There’s actually a power switch right there on the power supply, located directly on the bucket itself. 😁
