Is Telfast a corticosteroid?

There are probably a hundred threads out there about Telfast, but can anyone give me a definitive answer—is this stuff actually a corticosteroid?

I used to think Google was my best friend—until I realized I don't actually know enough terminology to make sense of what it's telling me. I’ve got a composition ready, but how am I supposed to tell if it's right? Nowhere does it explicitly say "corticosteroid"

There’s info on therapies, success rates, and all that—plenty of stuff, really—but nothing specifically on this... or maybe I'm just missing it.

Telfast is just your standard antihistamine.

Ugh, this site just won't load for me... can someone please help a girl out and tell me if it's a corticosteroid? Like, is it actually okay to take Telfast while I'm pregnant or is that a total no-go? And what even are antihistamines anyway?

Think of your OB-GYN as someone you can actually talk to about this stuff.

They aren't "histamine drugs" per se—it's more that histamine itself acts as the messenger for those whole allergic reaction mess.

My OBGYN is such a jerk, honestly can't even manage a simple "hello" when you walk in the door🙄 whatever, I guess I'll just go find someone else who actually knows their stuff... or maybe I'll just stop taking these and see what happens😉

Honestly, you really shouldn't be messing around with anything while you're pregnant, especially when it comes to medications—and steroid treatments are definitely off the table without a doctor's okay. Telfast isn't actually a corticosteroid; as I mentioned before, it's an antihistamine, which means its job is to prevent or treat allergic reactions. As for what is or isn't safe to take while you're pregnant, you really need to clear that with your OB-GYN. If your doctor is being difficult about it, just go find a different one.

Just as a side note—if a pregnant woman has asthma and suffers an attack, she will very likely be treated with corticosteroids. According to a pulmonologist I spoke with, while they can have risks, those risks are far outweighed by the danger of both the mother and the baby being deprived of oxygen.
