Just spent some time reading up on ORSβOral Rehydration Solution. Itβs basically a drink meant to get your electrolytes back in balance when you're dealing with stomach flu or bad diarrhea. You can actually whip up a basic version right in your kitchen. All you need is half a teaspoon of salt, six level teaspoons of sugar, and a liter of water to mix it all in. Some sources suggest eight teaspoons of sugar, but I read somewhere that too much sugar might actually make the diarrhea worse.
The trick is to sip it slowly, especially if your stomach is totally rejecting everything you try to eat.
I also came across a note saying this basic mix is missing potassium, which is another huge electrolyte. To fix that, one recipe suggests adding a teaspoon of baking soda and about half a cup of orange juice, then topping it off with water until you hit a liter.
I haven't tested this out myself, so do your own digging if you search for "homemade rehydration."
