I realize we probably won't find much objectivity here since there's never enough soccer to go around 😛, and if I had posted this in a different corner of the internet, say a lifestyle forum 😛, the responses would be completely different, but I'm not interested in their opinions, just yours 😛.
It’s honestly a shame that our TV networks—specifically CBS these days—seem to only care about showing the Champions League, MLS, or whenever the national team plays or some local club shows up in Europe; everything else is just ignored, though they did squeeze in some UEFA cup matches recently. They claim they broadcast La Liga and Serie A, but I can't help but laugh because they only show replays every once in a blue moon, mostly because they're too busy cycling through the same old movies for the thousandth time. On top of that, you rarely see anything from the English Premier League unless it's one of those big four derbies. It used to be that networks like FOX regularly showed the Premier League, but that's gone now, likely because they don't want soccer getting in the way of corporate interests. As for soccer shows, we're stuck with the two about MLS and the Golden Boot. I have absolutely nothing good to say about that Golden Boot show... seriously, people, they can't even manage to cover the bottom half of the standings, which tells you everything you need to know. Occasionally you'll get a report on a league where they only bother to show a single match, and I often get the impression that the commentators working the Sunday broadcasts for the Italian and Spanish replays don't even know who is playing until the broadcast actually starts, leaving them totally unprepared and unable to offer any actual insight.
That's just the state of things on our television stations, whereas when I tune into foreign programming like ABC or other international channels, they consistently broadcast Serie A (with ABC and others showing up to three matches a weekend), the Premier League (often showing two games a day on Saturdays and Sundays), the UEFA cup, and Copa Libertadores, along with major derbies from Brazil, Argentina, and Scotland, plus the semifinals and finals of many major European cups—they even showed Bayern Munich vs. Dortmund recently. They also provide extensive coverage of Copa Libertadores and Serie A
.Now I find myself wondering if this is simply because those networks have more money than we do, or if there is something else at play, so please, share your thoughts
