So, here’s what my pulmonologist wrote on my chart:
"Recommend ENT consultation to rule out LPR with Dr. Smith at Mayo Clinic"
I show up to see Dr. Smith—who is an ENT specialist, mind you—and he tells me he can't actually perform that specific test; says I need a gastroenterologist instead. I asked him if he was absolutely sure, since my pulmonologist specifically sent me to him—she mentioned she knew him, that he was great, and that he practiced at Mayo Clinic. He confirmed he knows her, but insisted that LPR needs to be handled by a GI. Says my throat looks fine and there’s nothing more he can conclude from his end.
My question is—why did my doctor send me to the wrong specialist? Does LPR have anything to do with ENT, or is one of these two just messing with me?
