Most disturbing movies?

Which movies do you all find particularly morbid? If you can, try to break down why they hit you that way.
For me personally, it’s Unbreakable, even though you won't find any typical "morbid" scenes in it. It's an incredible film, but what makes it feel so dark to me is the score, the acting, and perhaps most importantly, that profound sense of emptiness and wasted potential that some of us know all too well. I really think Bruce Willis did a masterful job portraying David Dunn, which is a huge reason why the atmosphere feels so heavy.

Every single time I watch this, it just completely wipes me out. 😢

That said—it might be worth clarifying what you actually mean by "morbid"—otherwise I have a feeling we’re all going to end up talking about ten different things. 🍿

Schindler's List... you know, I was just sitting here thinking about how some films don't just tell a story, they sort of leave a permanent mark on your soul, and for me, that's always been Schindler's List... it's one of those heavy, devastating masterpieces that stays with you long after the credits roll, making you stare at the wall in silence for a good while... there’s just something about the way it captures the sheer scale of human cruelty balanced against those tiny, flickering moments of individual courage that feels almost too much to bear sometimes... it really makes you wonder about the weight of responsibility and what it actually means to stand up when everything around you is falling apart...
The Machinist... I’ve been sitting here thinking about it for a while now, just letting those images swirl around in my head, and honestly, it hits different every time you revisit it... It’s one of those films that doesn't just play on a screen, it sort of seeps into your skin, making you feel that heavy, hollow exhaustion that the main character carries through every frame... You watch him, this guy living on nothing but caffeine and sheer willpower, and you can't help but wonder where the line is between reality and the crushing weight of a guilty conscience... It’s such a visceral, gritty descent into madness, much like something you might see from Haneke if he decided to lean into a more psychological noir vibe, though it has its own distinct, haunting rhythm... There’s a certain darkness there, a loneliness that feels almost universal, even if we aren't all living through his specific nightmare... I find myself drifting back to how it compares to Schindler's List The Machinist, looking at those themes of penance and the impossible struggle to live with what you've done... It stays with you, long after the credits roll, leaving you staring at the wall, wondering just how much of ourselves we hide from the world...

I find there is something deeply morbid about

as if those heavy doses of pills were something I didn't even fully grasp at the time

and then the movie happens, where he just heads off toward some sort of golden aura, while

this one really set the screen on fire.
It strikes me as quite macabre, honestly; I think I would have left her there too, just to enjoy her life in that massive estate.

And here we go again, drifting back into a discussion about sex.

I actually spent some time at a clothing-optional beach once, and I truly believe I would recommend the experience to anyone. ☕

True. Finding more mainstream works from Asian directors shouldn't be an issue at all.

Seven is just so morbid—especially that ending with the head—but honestly, those scenes hit way too hard
