It’s no surprise that dental amalgam is linked to all sorts of health issues, given that it's packed with mercury—which is obviously toxic. I’m trying to find out if there’s a dentist here in the States who actually gets this and can safely remove old fillings. The removal process itself can be pretty dangerous if you don't know what you're doing.

There are plenty of studies out there backing this up, but honestly? I don't need a mountain of data. If there's even a shred of doubt that this is true, I'm sold. You can sit around waiting for "undeniable proof" while the local news stations finally decide to run a segment on it.

It seems like nobody has a clue about this... If there's any risk from mercury sitting in a filling, then what happens when you actually swallow bits of it? That’s incredibly likely if someone gets a filling removed without proper protection.

My buddy’s wife actually had some work done by her dentist recently—he went ahead and swapped out all those old amalgam fillings for ceramic ones. I’m pretty sure he ended up paying about $67 per tooth, which brought the total to roughly $833 to get everything finished up..
If you take a look at his teeth now, you can barely tell he ever had any fillings at all; it’s such a convincing imitation of a natural smile..

The amount of mercury present isn't actually toxic to the body... that's been proven!

It’s considered proven until someone actually proves otherwise—though, honestly, I highly doubt anyone ever will.

Amalgam fillings and dead teeth (especially those with hollowed-out root canals) trigger a massive range of health issues.
We're talking cancer, MS, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, depression...
Every single one of those fillings contains over 25% mercury. It’s impossible for that stuff to just stay trapped forever inside an amalgam bond made of various metals and binders. Then you have the galvanic currents that inevitably kick in whenever two different metals touch. It's the exact same thing that happens inside a battery between electrodes—two different metals interacting, which, lo and behold, causes them to erode over time.
Go ahead and Google it. You'll find plenty of convinced people and firsthand accounts (though there's obviously way more info available in English).

For example: http://amalgamillness.com/

If you decide to swap out those black fillings for white ones, you really need to keep a few things in mind:

- Don't do them all at once; remove one filling at a time.
- Make sure your dentist uses a low-speed drill.
- Constant saliva suction is non-negotiable.
- Take a heavy metal detox supplement to help flush your system.
- For natural cleansing, try using ramps (wild garlic) and coriander (grind the seeds before adding them to your food).
- It's also smart to take algae supplements, like Chlorella.

One chilling illustration of how mercury impacts people regarding depression is the higher suicide rate among dentists.

Good luck, and get that amalgam out of your teeth and your body.

So, apparently, this stuff is still pure science fiction over here. Does anyone know which country in Europe has actually made the most progress with dental tech?
Thanks

Show me one actual scientific study that proves that! Then we can talk. 🙂

Look, any amount of mercury is poison. It's basic biology. You don't even need a lab coat to tell you that.

We’re talking about dental amalgam here, not pure liquid mercury. So, come on guys, where's the actual proof? I mean, show me one peer-reviewed study...

I’ve been rocking an amalgam filling on my bottom molar for 45 years now. It hasn't budged an inch, and honestly, my dentists joke that they should probably feature me in a medical textbook just for the longevity.
I haven't run into any health issues—especially none of those specific problems people love to blame on dental work. If I did have issues, it would way more likely be from just getting older rather than this old filling.
I have zero intention of pulling it or swapping it out. My bite is still perfectly fine, and that tooth has never given me a single moment of pain in my entire life. Plus, who knows what kind of "modern" filling I'd end up with? I'd much rather stick with what works.

Before we dive into the whole "scientific proof" thing—which, by the way, you aren't exactly bringing much of to the table either—let me hit you with a few basic questions:

1. Is mercury roughly 50% of what makes up amalgam?
2. Is mercury toxic?
3. So, is the amalgam itself toxic, or did the toxicity somehow just vanish once it was mixed? If it magically disappeared, care to explain how that works?
4. If you're so convinced amalgam isn't toxic, why don't we just eat some and see what happens?

Seriously, stop talking nonsense about things you clearly don't understand...

If dental amalgam were actually as toxic as people claim, we'd see massive mortality rates from all the millions of people walking around with these fillings. It's just pure stupidity...

That’s a pretty pathetic way to react—classic move when you've run out of actual arguments. And saying everyone's dying? That's the absolute peak of your logic right there.
So, in your book, something is only "harmful" if it kills you instantly? Is that how you roll?
Come on, since you're so fond of slapping labels on everything, why don't you actually answer the questions! Or is that too much to ask??

Take it down a notch with that tone...

Insults are just going to lead you down the wrong path...

Look, if you want to have a real conversation, then talk! If not, just shut it and move on.
Calling someone else's opinion "nonsense" isn't exactly classy. And since you're so worried about people being in the "wrong place," maybe watch your own mouth first.
I honestly can't tell if you're here to just pick fights off-topic or if you actually think you know what you're talking about.

Honestly, man, it seems like you don't really know what you're talking about and you're weighing in on stuff you aren't qualified for.

1. In the pre-amalgam mixture, there's maybe 5% max (when it's still in the capsule).
2. Yeah, it is.
3. Amalgam isn't toxic because the mercury gets bound up in compounds—mostly Ag2Hg3 and some Sn7Hg. Modern amalgams actually avoid the gamma 2 phase (Sn7Hg) by having the tin bind with copper instead of mercury, which basically makes the amalgam stronger, harder, and more resistant to pressure and everything else in the mouth. As for the "leftover" mercury, it mostly ends up in a much more stable (stronger) Ag2Hg3 bond.
4. Yeah, you could eat it once it's fully set.

I'm still waiting for you to show me some actual scientific evidence to back up your claims 🙂 but all you've got are these elementary questions...

I don't know if you know your stuff, but you are spouting absolute nonsense. It's crazy—you could find the real facts in any medical textbook out there.

1. Mercury makes up about 52% of an amalgam filling.
2. Go ahead, swallow a hardened chunk of amalgam and let's see how that works out for you.
3. Just because it's "bonded" doesn't mean the toxicity vanishes. Mercury vapors are constantly leaking out of those fillings. Dentists actually see double the brain tumor rates compared to the rest of the population. And for female dentists? The risk of infertility or miscarriage is three times higher than average. The link between amalgam and all sorts of other health issues is pretty much settled science at this point.
4. Tons of countries have already banned or strictly limited using amalgam (like Austria or Sweden...). You think they did that just for fun? Maybe you should call them up and tell them they're wrong since the fillings are "edible"?

Once again, I gotta tell you: you keep acting like you're citing science, but you aren't applying any of it.
And one more thing: the fact that you're resorting to insults just shows you've run out of actual arguments.
