Jamie Davis9 said:What kind of "trust" are you talking about, for God's sake?! Are we even watching the same movie? Help me out here—why on earth would Jesse James strip off his gun belt, something he absolutely never did, and then stand there with his back turned to a man he supposedly knew better than anyone else? Was he just trying to dust off a picture of a horse or something?

totally missed the mark here 🤷

Besides, those neurotic phases of his were fatal, and the movie actually points that out.

How could his assessment not be overblown? The man didn't even trust himself—which they made perfectly clear in the film—so there's no way he would have given any credence to someone he openly despised.

then why on earth would he just let him walk right into his house?

simply because they needed him.

Should they have actually killed him?

He needed them as sidekicks during the heists. Once he decided his time was up, yeah, he needed Robert Ford to step in and pull it off for him. Was that actually what happened in reality? Who knows, probably not, but I’m talking about the story the movie is telling us here. Go ahead, rewatch the scene and tell me what you see.

You're being so impossibly stubborn that my brilliant little point has effectively sunk under the weight of your ignorance. 😠 Honestly! 🙂

Before Ford actually pulls the gun, you've got that calculated, fake-nice smooth-talking bullshit from him, acting all surprised, like, "Why on earth are you walking down the street with guns strapped to your waist?"
But honestly, part of me feels like he was practically begging for it, though I guess that doesn't make much sense if you think about it too hard 🤷

Then again, maybe he just had this gut feeling that his time was running out.

Patrick Martin said:Look, those guys are straight-up legends, regardless of how they did things or the fact they were technically on the wrong side of history.
Back then, it was the Wild West—total lawlessness where everyone walked around with a gun strapped to their hip. Just absolute madness.

It’s kind of like how people still obsess over old-school outlaw types here in the States, like Billy the Kid or something. People still harbor this weird sympathy for characters like that even today.

Not really, though. The "Wild West" is mostly just a myth. There actually wasn't nearly as much murder and crime happening back then compared to what you see in the movies.

It's pretty much impossible to wrap my head around this, so I'd really appreciate if someone could just break down the ending for me.

So I was just digging through this book called "Great Mystery Past" (it’s like one of those mosaic-style books), and I just read that the Governor of Missouri put up a $5,000 bounty for the "delivery" of Jesse James. Apparently, Bob Ford even went behind his back and cut some secret side deal to secure himself an amnesty.
