Hey there, my doctor recently sent me for a stool culture test because of some digestive issues, and this was the result:

"Candida species isolated in total coproculture at a 15% representation"

Can anyone explain what this actually means? Should I be worried? Is 15% considered a lot or just a little?

I know a bit about candidiasis, including the symptoms and typical treatments, but I'm curious why the report says "Candida species" instead of specifically "Candida albicans." Also, I'm wondering about that 15% figure...

Load up on things like Greek yogurt and anything packed with probiotic cultures. It’s also entirely possible you’re dealing with a yeast infection. If you’re feeling itchy or seeing a cottage cheese-like discharge, grabbing some Monistat vaginal suppositories and an external cream should do the trick.

Well, if you truly believe you can settle this entire issue with just a single dose of Dante, then you’re facing a rather minor inconvenience... though I suppose you're being quite optimistic. Honestly, I don't think I've ever encountered anyone who dealt with a candidiasis infection and found that one pill of Dante cleared everything up by the following day. In my own experience, I did use Dante, but it was always accompanied by several other medications to actually make it effective. I think I saw someone mention once that if they use the word "species," it implies a very specific type—wasn't that part of another thread? What kind of digestive issues are we talking about here? Did you get any other tests done?

How long did the sample sit before it actually hit the lab? Candida is everywhere, so it's pretty easy to assume they just multiplied while waiting. Besides, doctors are supposed to treat the patient, not the lab report...

It’s hard to buy that 15% of your crap is actually fungus, unless you're dealing with uncontrolled diabetes, HIV, or something along those lines...

The only symptoms I have are terrible bloating, and that’s about it. No pain.

What does "in the total stool culture" actually mean?

Is it just bloating, or are you dealing with gas too?
Which specific test did you end up running?

Both were pretty intense. I ran tests for parasites and Candida.

Other than that, I don't really have any other symptoms.

Can you explain how those tests actually work? I was once advised to get one done specifically for parasites, but I never ended up going through with it. 😳
