My mom tested positive for Salmonella. No clue how long she’s been carrying it. She's wondering how long this lasts and if it can actually be cleared up...
Anyone dealt with this before?
thanks

My brother went through this when he was about twelve years old. It was absolutely brutal; he was dealing with non-stop vomiting and diarrhea, and honestly, anything he tried to eat or drink just came right back up immediately. After two weeks of that misery, it finally cleared up and that was the end of it...

I’m wondering if there’s a standard antibiotic protocol for Salmonella Enteritidis. I’ve moved past the actual symptoms, but since I'm still considered contagious, I want to know how this is typically treated.

From what I understand, doctors usually only go for antibiotics in extreme cases—like if you can't stop vomiting or if your fever just won't break.

My little girl actually picked up Salmonella at a seafood restaurant on vacation once, and she dealt with it for three whole months. Her pediatrician told us there was no need for antibiotics because her body would just clear it out on its own if we focused on the right diet—lots of probiotic yogurt, cheese, fresh fruit, veggies, and just constant fluids throughout the day. You could always grab some probiotics from a drugstore to help get things moving along, too.
