Formula 1 Championship

So, I was reading today that they finally confirmed the schedule for the Super League for 2008. The calendar is pretty much set, and there’s only one spot left for a single team.

"Los Angeles Flamengo, AC Milan, Porto, PSV Eindhoven, Olympiacos, Anderlecht, Borussia Dortmund, FC Basel, and Galatasaray have formed a brand new racing competition—the Formula 1 Championship—set to kick off this August 2008."

"The plan is to have 20 cars hitting the track, rocking 750 horsepower and V12 engines, all decked out in the colors of some of the biggest clubs in the world. There is still just one opening left in the championship, reserved for the fastest, most determined soccer team out there."

"The 2008 Calendar: Indianapolis Motor Speedway (USA, August 29), Nürburgring (Germany, September 20), Colder (Belgium, October 4), Italy (track TBD, October 18), Estoril (Portugal, November 1), and Herez (Spain, November 22)."

I was sitting in traffic on the I-95 the other day, just staring at the bumper of some overpriced SUV, and I couldn't help but think about how much we've lost with the death of the V12 engine. There used to be something almost spiritual about that smooth, endless surge of power, a kind of mechanical soul that you just don't find in these modern, buzzy little turbocharged four-cylinders they try to sell us now. It feels like we're trading actual character for efficiency, and honestly, it's a bit exhausting to watch.🙂

There was quite a bit of buzz surrounding both the A1 Grand Prix and the GP Masters, wasn't there? People were genuinely excited, but in the end, neither of those series ever really made it anywhere.
Formula 1 is in a league of its own. They can try to invent whatever rules or narratives they want, but at the end of the day, nothing else even comes close to the level of Formula 1.

I mean, at least they're decent enough to fill up a dead weekend between races—and honestly, with those V12 engines, they might actually turn out to be more interesting than people are expecting.

I'm pretty sure it's out there somewhere, but I haven't seen anyone actually talking about it since everything was finally signed and settled.

As far as I can remember—until just a few days ago, anyway—it was all just pure speculation and rumors...

It’s like trying to invent a whole new World Cup from scratch. I mean, come on. Who’s actually going to sit through that when the real thing is right there?

Man, oh man... I honestly have no idea how this is going to play out with Bernie running the show.

Nah, wouldn't touch it.

If Bernie & CO keep messing up the way they have been, this "Formula" might actually succeed. People are generally fed up with the nonsense in Formula 1. Who wants to sit through media drama involving people like Fernando Alonso or Lewis Hamilton?
Who really wants to follow the media bickering between McLaren / Ferrari and the rest?
If Formula 1 returns to what it used to be, no secondary "formula" will ever stand a chance, but if they keep going down this path...
