I’ve been dealing with persistent dizziness for quite some time now. Over the last year, I’ve been seeing a physical therapist—dealing with some issues in my cervical spine—who has actually been a huge help. The episodes are much less frequent and significantly milder now. However, despite that progress, I’ve noticed a recurring pattern: the dizziness almost always flares up during my period, and sometimes lingers for a few days after it ends. It happens nearly every single month. I also realized that my complaints tend to follow this exact same schedule—it's become a predictable cycle. At times, the vertigo is simply unbearable.
Does anyone else here experience something similar? Is there any chance these dizzy spells are tied to hormonal fluctuations during that specific phase of the cycle? (I am planning to consult with my OB-GYN, of course, but I figured I would gather some insight here first).
Thanks

What kind of dizziness are we talking about here—and how long does it last, like an entire hour... do you feel like the room is actually spinning or is it more of something else?

The dizziness just won't quit—it lasts all day long... though occasionally things settle down a bit in the evening. Typically, it kicks in around day three of my cycle and persists until about day seven (and sometimes even longer). It feels as if the ground is constantly shifting beneath me; everything spins, my head feels foggy... honestly, it’s like being intoxicated. 🤷

Go get some blood work done. You might be dealing with anemia. If it turns out your levels are fine, then you definitely need to go see a neurologist.

I wasn't anemic either—and I’ve already seen a neurologist, who confirmed everything is perfectly fine from a neurological standpoint.

The only other things that come to mind are your inner ear's vestibular system, thyroid issues, or even your reproductive hormones. Since you mentioned the dizziness seems tied to your cycle, there’s a strong chance it’s a hormonal fluctuation issue. Honestly, go get a second opinion from an endocrinologist and a gynecologist.

Ugh 😁 finally, someone else dealing with this. I went through this for years—horrible dizzy spells, passing out, and my blood pressure would just go haywire during my period. The worst part was when my OBGYN, rolling her eyes at me, basically spat in my face and insisted there was zero connection between the two. I’m 47 now; I hit menopause five years ago and haven't had any of those issues since.

@ Angela Wright... I've checked everything—both my thyroid levels and my hormonal balance. Now, I just need to get a final word from my OB-GYN.
@ ezop..... Surely you aren't suggesting I have to wait until menopause? That would be an eternity—I'm only 26.

So, I just left my OB-GYN. She recommended that I get some blood work done—again—just to double-check my iron levels. I went in today, which happens to be day four of my cycle. Honestly, I don't think that's the issue since I’ve never dealt with iron deficiency issues before; why would I suddenly have 🤷? Regardless, it’s better to run the tests just to rule it out so we can move on to more substantial diagnostics.

It seems... quite obvious that there aren't many of you dealing with this particular little issue here.😲

Low blood pressure??? I get something pretty similar, though mine is a bit milder. It usually hits me during my period or whenever there's a massive storm rolling through—my pressure just tanks. I’ve had it drop down to 90/60 before, and honestly, I start wobbling around, feeling this dull ache at the base of my skull and my vision gets all blurry. It most often happens about an hour after lunch; once my digestion kicks in, my blood pressure just takes another dive.

My blood pressure has always been perfectly fine, so I’m ruling that out.
I just picked up my lab results—iron levels are at 13. Technically within the normal range. Now I have to head back to the OBGYN to figure out what the next step is. I wonder if they’ll actually bother ordering a full hormone panel? 🤷
Anyway, nothing has been resolved yet... 🙄

electricpanther17, I’m dealing with something very similar.
I actually experience two distinct types of vertigo. The first kind just hits me out of nowhere—that intense sensation where everything starts spinning, though I don't lose consciousness. The second type happens during my period; I start seeing white spots and feel like I might pass out, which seems directly tied to blood pressure fluctuations occurring right during and after my cycle.
I have gone through every possible diagnostic test, including those specialized vestibular evaluations for balance, and the only thing they found was some issues with my cervical spine and vertebrae pressing against the arteries in my neck.
Unfortunately, none of the therapies I've tried have managed to resolve it. 😢

Unfortunately, I deal with two distinct types of vertigo 👎. One set stems from my cervical spine—which I’ve managed to get somewhat under control—and the other is tied directly to my menstrual cycle. There is a massive difference between them: when the neck issues flare up, I take some Xanax, my muscles finally relax, and everything settles down. But these other episodes? They absolutely wreck me, and nothing seems to touch the pain. When my period is light, I can handle it, but when it hits hard 🙂
I also attempted those balance exercises 👎
Have you actually had your hormone levels checked?
I am at my wits' end with this, and frankly, I'm just furious 😠

I deal with PCOS myself, so my hormone levels are basically a constant roller coaster. That said, I haven't really noticed any connection between those fluctuations and feeling dizzy. Mood swings? Absolutely. Dizziness? Not for me.

And here I was thinking I was the only one 🙂

My period ended two days ago and I’m still stumbling around like a zombie all day long. It’ll let up for maybe forty-eight hours, I'll feel fine for like two weeks, and then BAM—here we go again!
Seriously, how much longer can this go on!!!
I'm 31, haven't had kids (someone actually suggested that might be why?!?), and this whole mess has been going on since March. Before this, I didn't have a single health issue to my name. My blood pressure is low, too—it frequently dips down toward 90/75. Sometimes I end up in the ER just to get some saline IV fluids. Right now, I'm waiting on a specialist from New York (I'm living in Miami) to prescribe a treatment plan. I've put together a massive pile of test results, hormone panels, tumor markers... everything. And they're all perfectly normal, except for my ovulation phase hormones, which aren't spiking at all when they absolutely should 🙂 . I'll let you guys know what he says once I hear back, so maybe my experience can help some of you out.

Best,
