My primary care doctor is honestly just terrible... I feel like I haven’t had a single decent physician when it comes to my general health so far...
Her whole philosophy seems to be "you're young, so you must be healthy." It drives me crazy every time I have to go in for a referral or a prescription; I always leave feeling like she's doing me a massive favor by even acknowledging me.
Recently, I mentioned several times that I've been dealing with these awful headaches, and her only response was, "Oh, it's probably just stress." I actually ended up paying out of pocket to get my sinuses scanned because I was worried it might be something serious—turns out it was chronic sinusitis! It was pretty scary.

So, I’m seriously considering switching doctors. I really need someone patient and kind. I end up at the clinic quite often—on average, once every couple of months—not because I'm making things up, but because I have some congenital issues that require regular monitoring. This current doctor gets visibly annoyed whenever I need to see an ophthalmologist for a checkup... it's exhausting.

I've heard good things about Dr. Miller; my dad sees her and says she's fine, though he did mention her sister is absolutely dreadful...

I’ve been seeing Dr. Koča for years now. This new clinic is practically right across the street from me, but I woke up today and decided to Google this thread because, honestly, I’m at my breaking point. My mood shifts for the better the second I see 😢. She has never been able to grasp anything beyond the most basic symptoms. Every single diagnosis she hands out boils down to "just sleep it off," "walk it off," or "don't worry about it." When I actually try to ask if there are specific treatments or medications that might help, she takes offense. It’s bizarre to see that kind of attitude from someone her age. When I express that I’m not satisfied with her nonchalant way of just waving my concerns away, she starts making snarky comments. As an introvert, I really don't know how to deal with that. She can derail me with her rambling so effectively that I forget why I even showed up, and her "diagnoses" feel more like bad philosophy than actual medicine. Sometimes I get the feeling I'm on a hidden camera show, though when you're sick, that isn't funny. Or I think about those stories of people practicing medicine without ever stepping foot in a classroom. I struggle with clinical depression, which—even with medication—can occasionally leave me completely paralyzed. But with her, getting medical leave is impossible. You can't even get a couple of days off a month without a massive fight. Because of that, I lost one job (I managed to hold it for a year and a half before that, so don't go calling me a hypochondriac) and had major issues at the next one. Luckily, I managed to convince them to give me unpaid time off since I burned through all my sick leave. The "best" part is when I finally drag myself to her office, and she tells me nothing is wrong and I should just grit my teeth. Then I spend the whole night suffering, vomiting, and praying to God for help, because in those moments, I’d become a believer in any religion just to find relief...

To be fair, I really like the new clinic, and I’m going to miss Ivanka. Even when she isn't in the best mood—which isn't often—she seems like a genuinely good person. I saw right through Dr. Koča’s fake smile the first time I had a semi-serious issue and needed more than just a grin and a "it's nothing." 😢

Charles Newman3 said:You should definitely, absolutely look into Dr. Amy Koco over on 8th Avenue—I’ve been going to her for ages now and honestly, I can't say enough good things. She’s incredibly sharp, always staying on top of the latest training and certifications, plus she’s relatively young, which brings such a great energy to the practice. What I love most, though, is that you can actually talk to her—it feels less like a clinical interrogation and more like catching up with a friend. Her nurse, Ivanka, is also just fantastic. I’ve been a patient there for about 13 years now, and if I think back, I don't recall a single bad experience or even a minor hiccup.

I feel compelled to weigh in on the post above.

You have to realize that treating mental health issues is incredibly difficult work; while modern therapies are excellent, they aren't a magic wand. You also need to understand that you can't just take endless sick leave because of anxiety—it’s not that simple, as everything is strictly monitored by the Social Security Administration...
Furthermore, I actually think it's perfectly fine that they're trying to comfort you by suggesting your struggles are purely psychological. Honestly, if it's a chemical issue, there isn't much else that's going to help you besides antidepressants.🤷

In my view, treating mental health patients falls strictly under the domain of psychiatrists. A primary care physician can only write a prescription or sign off on medical leave based on a specialist's diagnosis.

Hey everyone... does anyone have a recommendation for a male doctor out in the western part of Washington, D.C.? Maybe somewhere around Arlington, Silver Spring, or even closer to Bethesda?
I've seen two female doctors up until now, and honestly, I just haven't really clicked with them. I figured I'd try switching things up and find a guy to see how that goes...
Thanks...

I have been seeing Dr. Božičević-Radić at the student health clinic near Times Square for four years now, and honestly, I wouldn't dream of switching. She is truly wonderful—always in good spirits and never makes you feel like she’s rushing you out the door just to clear her schedule. She actually takes the time to listen to what you have to say, explains exactly why she’s prescribing a specific treatment, and points you toward the necessary tests without ever being stingy with referrals. That part is particularly crucial for me, given that I visit once a month to manage a rather long list of recurring specialist appointments—ranging from dermatology and gynecology to pulmonology and endocrinology, plus various lab work. It’s quite a lot to juggle, but everything is handled seamlessly. Generally speaking, it’s nothing but praise for Dr. 👍

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good GP in New York City (Brooklyn or Utrine area)? I’m looking for someone decent who won't be stingy with prescriptions or referrals when they're actually needed.

I'm also looking for a good GP recommendation somewhere in downtown Washington, D.C.
For those of you who have already asked about this thread—specifically anyone who switched over to Dr. Ivanka's office or that clinic on Runjanin—are you actually happy with them?

I’m also on the hunt for doctors in New York City: honestly, I don't care where they are located, as long as they’re actually taking on new patients!

That student health clinic doesn't sound half bad! 😁 If only it were actually possible to get an appointment...

I need to switch doctors too, so I'm wondering when the best time to pull the trigger is. Is there like a specific time of year you're supposed to do this?
