How many calories are we talking about here? Since I stay pretty active with sports, I’m probably looking at nothing less than 2,000 a day.

I don't want to sound like I'm lecturing you since I’m certainly no nutritionist, but looking back at my own journey, the typical advice—obsessively counting calories or cutting out carbs entirely—just didn't work for me. What actually made the difference wasn't the number on the scale, but how my clothes fit. I achieved that by focusing on consistent training sessions and sticking to whole, home-cooked meals at the exact same time every single day. Because I was so rigid with my schedule, I always found myself feeling incredibly hungry right when my mealtime hit. Eventually, I learned how to find a healthy balance where I can eat everything I enjoy while simply listening to my body and eating enough to feel satisfied.
Please, don't spend so much time stressing over this or beating yourself up. You're still in high school and your body is still changing and growing! Just enjoy being young!🙂

I’m about 5'9" right now and weighing in at 160 lbs. I was down to 152 before the school year started, but then the weight just spiked out of nowhere...

Does anyone have a good link for vegetarian recipes?

Honestly, that weight is perfectly normal—especially since you're an athlete. You likely carry more muscle than the average girl who considers walking in heels to be her peak physical activity.

Just keep a steady eye on things so it doesn't creep up further; if you really want to hit that 152 mark, maybe aim for it over the next three months...

As for those vegetarian recipes, you might actually have better luck starting a new thread over in the culinary section. I'm sure all the foodies over there would be more than happy to help you out. 🙂

There's actually already a thread 😉

Exactly what I needed! Thanks!

I finally decided to eat a decent lunch today—made some soy protein (the powder kind you mix with water and pan-fry, though I skip the oil entirely)—paired it with some beets, and had a little instant broccoli soup as an appetizer. I even had magnesium dissolved in water as part of the meal...

Anyway, I'll try harder to learn about all this stuff and actually carve out time to cook real food instead of just grabbing these quick fixes I've been living on lately.

If you're sticking around to read more, go check your thyroid levels. Honestly, this whole thing sounds familiar. It looks like the fallout from some childhood thyroid issue you probably didn't even notice, combined with how you eat now—basically leading to anorexia and a totally wrecked hormonal balance. That creates massive problems. You need to start slamming fruit, fresh or dried, and stop avoiding walnuts, almonds, nuts, and seeds. A handful of trail mix could literally save you. Your body will aggressively try to grab whatever nutrients it’s missing from whatever you feed it. You'll just end up packing on fat because your system is panicking, thinking it's starving... and forget canned food—only if it's an absolute emergency. Any veggies you boil with a little seasoning will work, and if it tastes bland, just toss in some heavy cream. If your thyroid is actually the issue, you might never hit that specific weight you're aiming for, but it's not the end of the world. Think about the downsides: it sucks when people have to help you move, or dealing with braces, or having to get a gastric balloon just so you don't look like an elephant and wreck your joints. Look at the big picture. Being thinner isn't going to make you any happier, I swear!

Hmm... I've switched over to a macrobiotic diet, but the stubborn pounds aren't budging yet...
