Hello, I am 43 years old. Back in February, while I was hospitalized following a stroke, I had a catheter inserted for ten days. The removal process was incredibly painful and involved passing small blood clots... I took some Sinersul, and after five days, I felt better. However, about a month after returning home, a burning sensation began in my urethra, accompanied by an urgent, constant need to use the restroom. I had a urine culture done, which showed an Enterococcus faecalis count of 10(6); I completed three courses of Nolicin, which cleared that specific bacteria, only for E. coli at 10(6) to emerge in its place. My urologist then prescribed Cedax for fifteen days, and while my urine tests now come back sterile, the burning sensation persists relentlessly... it is maddening, feeling as though there is an open wound inside my urethra or bladder. It has become so debilitating that I cannot walk or even sit comfortably; the only relief I find is when I lie down to sleep, until the urge to go strikes again. Is such a persistent sensation possible despite clear test results, and is there anything else I should be taking? I feel quite lost as to whom to turn for help next, especially since during my last appointment, the urologist prescribed Koprivit because my blood work and urine analysis appeared normal. If anyone could offer some guidance, I would be deeply grateful...

How many days did you wait after finishing your last dose of antibiotics before getting that urine culture done? You really ought to give it at least ten days, otherwise, those bacteria can just lie low and hide. Also, ask your doctor if you could try an antiseptic supplement like Ninur. You can actually take it for up to six months to make sure you completely eradicate E. coli, since that stuff is incredibly stubborn and loves to go dormant.
The only other smart move I can think of is to chug massive amounts of Uva Ursi, cranberry juice, or plantain tea—basically, the second you pee, you immediately replenish that fluid with a glass of tea. There’s also been a lot of talk on the forums about how effective Acedofil is when dealing with E. coli infections.

Greetings. I submitted my most recent urine culture three days after finishing a course of Cedax, though I had completed an initial box of Ninur prior to that first test. Is it possible for an ultrasound to detect any underlying structural damage if such an issue exists? Additionally, what might I take for the pain... it feels as though I am applying salt to an open wound.

I mean, even if your test results came back perfectly normal, did you actually tell the doctor that you're experiencing stinging or pain? It’s entirely possible—though I hate to suggest it—that they might have caused some irritation during a "professional" catheterization procedure. You really ought to head back to your physician and ask for a referral for some imaging; there is absolutely no reason they should deny you that request. Honestly, after dealing with a stroke, you certainly don't need the added stress of someone being clumsy with equipment they were supposed to be trained to handle. (And goodness, those hospitals can be such a headache—sometimes it feels like you leave feeling worse than when you arrived...) Also, please, make sure you're drinking those teas we discussed earlier.

Honestly, you’re better off just complaining that the symptoms aren't letting up so they'll actually run an ultrasound and redo the urine culture. It could easily be a perfect storm where an injury is masking a lingering infection. If the burning and pain are driving you crazy, you can take some Advil to take the edge off—I've done it myself and it works.👍
