I dealt with this exact same issue after taking a break from wearing earrings for a while. It actually cleared up once I started being more proactive about hygiene. I didn't stumble upon any groundbreaking medical breakthroughs, just some practical maintenance. 🤷 I made it a habit to clean out my piercing holes every week using sterilized earrings and a bit of rubbing alcohol. Now, I wear them almost daily. I always wipe the posts down with alcohol before putting them in, give my ears a quick swipe, and then follow up with some facial toner once I take them out at night.

edit: gentlesailor25, that could definitely be a possibility. My mother experienced something similar when her immune system was compromised during an illness. While I'm not a doctor, one holistic perspective I encountered suggested that certain points on the ear are linked to kidney function and the urinary tract. The idea is that when the body struggles to flush out toxins through normal channels, the ears might react accordingly. 🤷

I pierced my ear about two weeks ago, and I ended up taking out my starter stud way too early—only after about two weeks..
I’ve been reading all over the internet that you’re supposed to wear those medical-grade studs for at least two months because that’s how long it takes for the piercing to fully heal up..
While I was wearing the initial jewelry, there wasn't much pain, just that typical itching you get when things are healing, which felt totally normal to me.. but now I'm running into a real issue: every time I try to put in a different earring, the pain is just unbearable -.- I tried one with that French-style butterfly back, and it hurt so badly I was practically tearing up; I had to rip it out immediately because it was driving me absolutely insane 🤦 😁 Eventually, I found a lighter one that I managed to wear all day today. It hurts a little, but the real sting happens when I move it to the side, mostly because the wound hasn't actually closed up yet... I really thought that wearing the starter stud for a month would be enough time for everything to settle down so I could wear regular jewelry without any drama ^^

Since I'm dealing with this mess, I wanted to ask if wearing an earring for just 2-3 hours a day is enough? I don't think the hole will close since I just did this, but I went without anything for about 4 or 5 days and it was a struggle to get the stud back in—it felt like it had already almost plugged itself up, which was quite painful
I can't even describe it, and it actually bled a bit.. luckily, there’s no discharge or redness, I just tossed the medical stud because I had no idea it was going to turn out like this.

Now I'm stuck wondering if wearing it for a few hours a day will eventually make the pain stop, or if it would be better to just leave it in constantly, even while I sleep, so that
the discomfort fades away.. or maybe a third option: go out and buy another medical stud, though I'm really not feeling up to it right now.
I know some people have only worn their starter studs for two weeks before switching to regular earrings and were totally fine, but I guess not everyone's ears react the same way, and some earrings are obviously more comfortable than others.

I've been cleaning the area with rubbing alcohol and occasionally applying some antibiotic ointment.

After not wearing earrings for ages, I ended up getting a pair of little silver studs for Christmas.
Even though my piercing holes have pretty much closed up, I somehow managed to force one through my left ear.

Now I’m realizing that the earring has basically become part of my ear—specifically that back closure piece is completely stuck.
There is absolutely no way to get it out.

I’m honestly worried about an infection starting or some other major issue developing.

What should I do here? Is this something that needs immediate medical attention, or can I just wait until tomorrow?
