Movies about funerals and burials :amen:

Hey, movie buffs!

I have a question—it’s a bit unusual and might sound slightly morbid to some... but don't judge too quickly.

Here’s the deal: I’m looking for films that feature a formal funeral service. Specifically, I want scenes where a body is actually in a casket and being lowered into a grave. I’m not interested in anything else—nothing like a soldier being buried in a shallow hole behind a tree, or someone being wrapped up and tossed overboard from a ship.

It has to include
1. a casket,
2. family (there needs to be at least one mourner present besides the gravedigger, regardless of whether there's a priest or a eulogy),
3. the actual act of placing the casket into the grave.

The genre doesn't matter—horror, comedy, whatever 😉—and it doesn't matter if it's an old classic or a recent release. It could be an American film, a Japanese film, or something from halfway across the world... I don't even need to understand the dialogue.

Thanks in advance if any of you can point me toward some examples.

In One Tree Hill, things got incredibly heavy during the final season when we had to deal with the murder of Uncle Keith. It was a brutal stretch of episodes; they actually featured two Three Mile Island type scenarios back-to-back—first with Keith, and then with that kid who took hostages at the school before taking his own life...

Man, they’re gonna run this brand into the ground at this rate! Seriously though—series, soap operas—it feels like there's a funeral in almost every single episode. Take *Hero* (you know, the one with Jet Li?), there's that whole Wu Ming funeral vibe at the end. Every single King Arthur movie ends with a funeral too (with the elves carrying dead Arthur off to Avalon and all that). Or even *Chariots of Fire*! You get it, right? It's everywhere.

I was just thinking about Six Feet Under again, and man, that show still hits me right in the feels. It’s one of those rare series where you can go back years later and find something entirely new to appreciate in the storytelling. There’s just something so incredibly raw and honest about how it handles life, death, and everything in between. I honestly don't think many shows on HBO today could capture that specific kind of magic.It’s all about a family of morticians—you know, the whole business of embalming and funeral services. But honestly, beyond the premise, it stands out as one of the absolute best series HBO has ever produced. You really have to commit to watching the whole thing from start to finish, because every single episode is just packed with corpses and grieving families. 😁:

The death and funeral of an elephant... honestly, it’s such a heavy thing to wrap your head around, isn't it? There's just something about the passing of such a massive, soulful creature that hits you right in the gut. It makes you stop and think about the sheer scale of life and how much we all eventually have to say goodbye to. I’ve been thinking about Santa Sangre lately, and man, it really stays with you, doesn't it? It’s one of those films that just lingers in the back of your mind long after the credits roll..
