How do I upload images and videos to the forum?

It’s still not letting me upload my actual photo; it just keeps defaulting to this generic icon instead.

I suppose you should really try to stick to images that aren't larger than 640x640, because they tend to stretch out the forum page quite awkwardly. If they happen to be bigger than that, maybe just leave the direct link instead.

But how am I supposed to resize them?

Before you go ahead and upload any photos to sites like Imgur or similar hosting services, I suppose it might be wise to use some kind of image editing software on your PC, such as
Adobe Photoshop or maybe even GIMP,
to reduce the file size before you attempt the upload. If you could just let us know which specific program you are using on your computer, then perhaps we could provide you with some more detailed guidance.
Furthermore, if your intention is for other forum members to view the image at its true, full scale—since it will likely exceed the maximum dimensions allowed here—you should simply paste the direct link
instead of embedding it within tags,like this: http://i40.tinypic.com/35bxaps.jpg. That way, I guess people can just click
on the link to see the original version.

Tinypic actually gives you the option to use their Resizer when you're uploading.

I’ve got a quick question for you all: when I upload my photos through Imgur, if I go back later and delete them from my online album, will they actually stay visible within my forum post? Or am I just setting myself up for a bunch of broken links and empty boxes?

You can't. But then why bother uploading everything to an album in the first place?
