brundo said:Look, this isn't some joke. This is just old-school, traditional first aid for when you get stung by a jellyfish or hit by sea nettles out on the coast... I've personally tried it more times than I can count. If you had just done it right away, that scar would be way smaller and probably gone by now. Since you waited, there's a real chance those sting marks will still be hanging around next year, depending on which jellyfish decided to kiss you in the first place.

Thank God, finally someone with a brain. 🙏 🙏

I mean, you didn't have to do it all by yourself! You could've just asked someone for help, 😉😁

Honestly, just from using that lavender oil since yesterday, everything has started clearing up. There’s barely anything left now... seriously, almost nothing. Lavender really is the best 🙂

Last year I got burned pretty bad—shoulder, neck, part of my face. It was a huge mess. You wanna know what actually worked? Here: IMMEDIATELY I scrubbed it down with dish soap (like Dawn, for example) and then spent days slathering on Fenistil gel. It stung like hell at first, and the scar stayed red and swollen for a few days, but after that? Nothing. It’s totally gone. So don't sweat it... especially if you're feeling okay right now.

I’ve still got this nasty scar from a jellyfish sting I picked up years ago. Let's see if we can find anyone else out there... :number one: 25 years later 😁

A jellyfish stung me too. I peed on it immediately and honestly, the pain just died down pretty fast. Apparently, the ammonia in urine helps neutralize the venom. For me, everything settled in about two or three hours. That said, if the idea of using your own pee grosses you out—which, fair enough—just carry some ammonia around with you. You can grab a bottle of it at any local CVS or Walgreens.

So, I just got back from my beach trip. Right at the start of vacation, a jellyfish stung my leg—nothing huge, just a little sting, so I basically just rinsed it off in the ocean, then hit the shower back at the rental and slathered some Aquaphor on it. By the second day, there was barely even a trace left, so I didn't really think twice about it—just kept up with my usual routine of sunscreen and after-sun lotion after every shower.

I haven't been obsessing over it or anything, but I figured it had totally cleared up since I catch glimpses of myself all the time when I'm getting ready to head out or whatever, and nothing looked red or irritated.

But then today—nearly ten days after the whole "accident"—I happen to glance down at my leg, and lo and behold, the mark is right there. It's raised, red, and honestly looks almost worse now than it did right after it happened.

wtf? 😕

You probably just irritated the wound with your shoes or some tight clothes.

Honestly, I had the same thing happen when a jellyfish stung me the other day. 😍
It hurt like hell 🙄 but I just slapped some coconut oil on it—since I didn't have anything else on me—and it calmed down pretty fast.

For me, it was most visible about 4 or 5 days after the sting. I started using lavender oil, and it faded bit by bit every day.

She got me too while I was out there trying to save some kid from a rip current, even though I was already pretty close to the shore.
It absolutely wrecked my arm—left me with three nasty welts. Within half an hour, everything had swollen up, and by evening, it felt like my skin was being roasted alive. While everyone else was busy telling me the sting would linger for years, I was busy lying to myself, claiming the jellyfish burned me when I was a kid (which is true) and that my body had basically built up an immunity so it’d clear up fast.
Sure enough, the stinging just stopped out of nowhere, and now, a month later, the scar is finally fading away day by day.

Man, my arm was absolutely wrecked. It left these three nasty welts on me. Within half an hour, everything started swelling up, and by evening, it felt like my skin was being roasted alive. While everyone else was trying to convince me that these burns stick around for years, I was busy telling myself that since I got stung by jellyfish when I was a kid, my body had already built up antibodies and this would clear up fast. Total wishful thinking, right?

You can grab some Aloe Vera cream at the drugstore—it’s only about two bucks.
I mean, honestly, there’s a massive selection of those creams out there.

I seem to recall an episode of Jackass where Steve-O decided to plunge his head straight into a bucket full of jellyfish 😱 which naturally led to him trying to soothe the sting with some urine 😬

I suppose ammonia might actually be effective for that sort of thing, maybe

Walter Myers4 said:it was obviously just a joke. However, it is widely understood that urine can neutralize most toxins.

I realize I am quite late to this particular discussion, but what he said is absolutely true.
Last year, I suffered a rather painful jellyfish sting on my back. Good grief, the stinging sensation is indescribable; ever since that ordeal, I find myself scanning the water constantly, looking for anything that might resemble a floating plastic bag.🙂

To make a long story short, I ended up sprinting home in tears. A local resident suggested that having someone urinate on the affected area might help. Without much hesitation, I gathered some urine in a basin and applied it to my back. It actually provided immediate relief. Shortly thereafter, I was taken to the emergency room at a local hospital, where the staff informed me that my impromptu remedy was actually the best course of action.

To prevent any lasting scarring, I also applied some Vaseline, which worked wonders and ensured everything healed perfectly.
Though, I must admit, I spent a few days feeling rather self-conscious about my own urine.😳

Casey Palmer5 said:A few days ago, I ended up with a bright red imprint of her leg right on my face. Any ideas on what I should rub on this to make it disappear faster?

Calendula ointment, chamomile, or something else entirely?

Last year in Tunis, there was a massive jellyfish swarm. A friend of mine got one of those "red bracelets" on her leg from a sting.

The hotel clinic actually told her to rub fresh tomato juice on the spot—even holding tomato slices against it.

It worked!! The pain and redness cleared up fast, and she didn't even have a scar, which is impressive considering how huge that "bracelet" was.👏

I recently had this thing happen where I was bitten in three different spots on my right upper arm, and honestly, I just stayed out in the ocean and let it sting. 🙏

So, a jellyfish got me today too. Not exactly the highlight of my afternoon. The redness is finally starting to die down, I guess, though it still has this annoying little sting to it...
I just slapped some basic moisturizer on it since I didn't have anything else lying around, which helped soothe the oily patch a bit, maybe.

Where exactly did the jellyfish sting you? I guess I remember getting stung on my leg when I was little back in Key West. I can't quite recall how bad the burn actually felt at the time, but I know I definitely got off easy... I remember seeing other kids who ended up with stings all over their faces.

There’s this cream specifically for burns—the ER staff actually recommended I pick some up. It’s called Dermazin, and honestly? It works.

What if it burns your eyes?!! 😲
I love diving with my eyes open, but I'm pretty worried about my vision. 😢
So far, I've only dealt with sea lice, which stings like hell, so I don't even want to imagine what a jellyfish would do...
