Staying on topic: I've always felt Breakfast at Tiffany's had a terrible ending. You spend a hundred minutes following one story, and then in the last 30 seconds, everything flips 180 degrees with a happy ending that makes zero sense based on anything we saw before.😢

I’ll probably be met with some grief for this one—it's a bit of a guilty pleasure—but honestly, I find Breakfast at Tiffany's to be one of those truly sappy, overhyped melodramas. Don't get me wrong, I've always felt Audrey was a bit overrated, but the sheer level of pathos in this movie is just unbearable. And don't even get me started on the endless, repetitive looping of Moon River throughout the entire film... enough already! Even Capote himself falls into that category of overpraised Americans who somehow became "classics" for reasons nobody can quite pin down. It isn't a bad film, per se—truth be told, it's fine—but the hype surrounding it is just unnaturally loud. I watched it, read about it, forgot it, and that's that.

I finally sat down and watched it today—honestly, I haven’t even seen Citizen Kane yet. I absolutely hate it when a movie gets this much hype and everyone acts like it's mandatory, yet it takes me forever to actually get around to watching it. I liked it, though. Audrey was just stunning; she seems so fragile and... well, you know. I guess that's exactly what they were going for. She plays the character as a bit of a scatterbrain, too. I can't believe she didn't catch on to the whole code thing. It feels more like she’s just living in her own little bubble where someone would actually pay her just to chat and spout nonsense to strangers.
As for the ending, I thought the shift felt really forced. The idea that her entire way of thinking transforms from total chaos into perfect clarity just because of a conversation in a taxi is a stretch. Throughout the whole movie, we meet Holly as this incredibly complex, superficial materialist with unbelievable charm, and then suddenly, they’re kissing in the rain and she’s supposedly over Brazil and the high life. It’s beautiful and romantic on screen, sure, but in the real world? That wouldn't be a happy ending for them. It would be the start of a nightmare.

The biggest stain on that whole movie is definitely Mickey Rooney playing that cliché "funny" Japanese character... honestly, just thinking about it makes me feel physically sick 🤮
