Does anyone have insight regarding the benefits of hydrotherapy rehabilitation at Spa Resorts in Newport following a heart attack and stent placement? I am curious about the program quality, typical wait times for insurance-covered stays, and whether one can opt for private hotel accommodations...

I am also weighing whether Palm Springs might be a better fit, or if staying local in Washington, D.C. for rehab—specifically following the programs at Drašković—would suffice. That was the advice we received...

Any information would be greatly appreciated... thanks in advance!

I went through rehab following hip surgery once. Honestly, the cardiac patients always seem to take priority over everyone else. They get two floors all to themselves, while us physical therapy patients are squeezed into just one. The accommodations aren't bad, though. From what I've gathered, the heart patients get admitted almost immediately—some even transfer directly from the cardiology ward at New Bedford.
If you opt for private lodging, it’ll run you about $68 for a single room equipped with a TV and an ocean view, and you can still use your insurance referrals for all the medical services.
Those of us waiting on standard physical therapy coverage end up on a six-month waiting list, but if you combine private housing with your insurance benefits, you can usually get in right away.
They have a full staff of specialists, a lab, and everything necessary for complete patient diagnostics and follow-ups.

Your best bet is to call and ask for them at 206 600 (add the area code if you're calling from outside the region); lately, I've been speaking with Ms. Zauhar.

That number is wrong. 206 600 belongs to FIN. For Oceania Newport, it's 202 600.

Hi there... well, I’ve spent some time at the retreats in Palm Springs, and I honestly think you’d find them much more beneficial than the program over at Drakon; you’ll likely feel significantly better overall, especially since the Drakon setup tends to focus strictly on basic exercises and stationary bikes, whereas at the spas you get access to the pools, which, believe me, makes such a massive difference in your recovery... as for the oceanfront therapy, I've heard from several people that Newport is actually a step above Palm Springs simply because of the sheer comfort level, particularly now that the weather is so beautiful... though, I believe the waitlist is about three months long.

I’m getting ready to head out for a 21-day rehab program following my heart valve replacement surgery. I was wondering if anyone here has gone through a similar cardiac rehab stint at an Oceania facility in Newport?

Specifically, I'm looking for some intel on
-the accommodations (how many beds per room, and how safe is it to keep valuables like cash, phones, or cards in the room?)
-how far the rooms are from the bus stop (I'll be hauling luggage, so every bit helps)
-whether there's access to a pool
-what essentials I should pack (like towels or swimwear)
-the schedule for the exercises—how long do they last and what time of day do they usually happen?

Thanks so much for any help you can give! 🙂
