Recovering from the flu doesn't mean you're set for two years. It really only protects you against that specific strain. This means next season—or even later in the current one—you could catch a different variant. That’s why doctors often suggest high-risk individuals get vaccinated twice: once with the early seasonal shot, and again with an updated version based on which strains actually end up circulating most during the winter.

Spot on. Thanks for clarifying that... if I had said it first, I probably would have come across as just some paranoid hypochondriac. 😁 😉

I’ve been getting my shots for three years running now, and honestly, thank God.
We finally pulled the trigger on this after we dealt with a bout of the flu about three years ago—man, it was brutal... we were totally wiped out.😲
I still remember being stuck in bed for 13 days straight; we couldn't even roll over. My mom had to bring us food constantly, because if she hadn't stepped in, we probably would've kicked the bucket.
Then she ended up catching the flu herself, even though she was wearing a mask and barely spent any time hanging out with us.
My husband ended up with pneumonia in one lung on top of the flu, and I got hit with bronchitis. My mom was dragging that bronchitis around until summer. She couldn't sleep at night because the coughing fits were literally choking her.
Needless to say, we stocked up on every syrup and remedy under the sun—especially that stuff from Dr. Thais—but even that didn't do squat.
It was a total nightmare.😲

Ever since we started getting vaccinated, not only have we stayed healthy, but for three winters now, we haven't even had a sniffle. We feel invincible.🙂

Oh, and... we eat a ton of garlic. We don't eat it raw—don't want to be rude to the people around us😁, but I throw it into basically everything I cook. Every single meal!!

I REALLY NEED SOME GUIDANCE HERE!

So, I got my flu shot about three weeks ago, but then two days back, I came down with this bladder infection. I've been drinking tons of cranberry juice to try and flush it out, and honestly, I feel like a course of antibiotics might be a good idea too. Anyway, I have an appointment with my doctor coming up.

My big question is: can antibiotics actually interfere with the vaccine or ruin the immunity I just built up from it?
It would be such a massive disappointment if all that vaccine work went to waste.

So, I got my flu shot about three weeks ago, right? And then two days ago, I caught this bladder infection thing and I've been chugging cranberry juice like it's water. Honestly, I feel like I probably need a round of antibiotics too. Anyway, I have to head to the doctor.

Question: can antibiotics mess up the vaccine? Like, will they kill off the immunity I just built up from the shot?
I’d be pretty bummed if the vaccine went to waste.

And look, since you're already heading to the clinic, just ask the doc. You know how some doctors get all judgmental if you didn't get your shots done through their specific office or whatever. Whatever. At the end of the day, you're a person and you get to make your own choices, so just ask them. 😛

It doesn't really matter. You're an adult and you have the right to choose, so honestly, the best move is just to talk to your physician. 😛

Don't state the obvious (it makes us former high school tourists look bad). 🙄

I mean, obviously I would consult my doctor if I had received my vaccinations through their practice. 🙄

By the way, why on earth would I be afraid of being judged by a doctor?? I have a clinic I go to that is absolutely fantastic.

Anyway, I've already gotten my answer to that question.

Just pick up a textbook and settle this whole marketing debate once and for all (it was my absolute favorite subject back in the day). 👍

Anyway, why would I even be scared of running into a doctor?? I have a clinic I go to that’s awesome regardless.

Besides, I already got my answer to the question.

Just pick up a book and get over this whole marketing thing once and for all (my absolute favorite subject ever).👍

Oh, I am just so glad I hit a nerve there. Why do you feel so called out because I told you to ask someone who actually knows what they're talking about? You're asking on a forum instead of going to an actual professional. 😛

You're basically tripping over your own words here, admitting you didn't even get vaccinated by him, and then claiming your clinic is "super."

And where did you get the idea that I have a problem with marketing? 😕 As if I'm telling you to grab a textbook and start asking smarter questions to people who actually understand the field—like doctors.

What does a flu shot have to do with marketing anyway? Stop stating the obvious.😛

Of course I got my flu shot this year. It’s become a bit of a ritual for me. Let the self-proclaimed geniuses who swear they have "superior immune systems" enjoy riding out high fevers and chills; I'll pass. It’s just a quick little poke in the arm—hardly worth the drama, and honestly, I haven't had any issues with it.

Regarding bird flu: getting the standard seasonal shot probably wouldn't hurt, though how much it actually helps depends entirely on how closely a mutated strain mimics the version we're vaccinated against.

If everyone actually stepped up and got vaccinated, we could probably wipe the flu off the map entirely. But then again, there’s always that certain type of person who thinks they’ve cracked the code on why they don't need medical science. 👎

Man, you've got it all wrong. If every single person actually showed up for those flu shots, Big Pharma would be sitting on a gold mine. It’s money straight from your wallet—or the taxpayers' pockets—right into theirs. That's the real reason to get the shot...😉

I'd hate to think I'm wasting the shot.

Nope. 😎

Unfortunately, that’s not how it works.

We’ve been lucky (as a species) when it comes to things like smallpox. It was a constant viral threat, and because we hit it with high vaccination rates, we wiped it out. One requirement for that kind of success is having a virus that stays consistent. The other is that the virus has to spread ONLY between humans—basically, only among individuals you can actually vaccinate.

not really—since the flu virus keeps mutating

every single year, so you're basically just getting vaccinated against whatever specific strain is circling around at the moment anyway

And why should everyone get vaccinated?
I haven't even had the flu in years.😕

I remember one time I caught a nasty bout of the flu. It lasted about two days, but man, the fever was brutal. I could barely drag myself out of bed just to boil some water for tea. I actually kept my phone right next to the pillow, thinking if I couldn't even stand up, I’d need to call 911 immediately.

Since that scare, I've made it a point to get my shot every year. On the off chance I still catch something, it’s usually nothing major—just a mild temperature around 99 or 100 degrees. I just stay home, surf the web for a bit, and it passes quickly without any drama.

For everyone out there arguing "against" the flu, you really need to check this out—just watch the whole video... hang in there while the buffering finishes, I promise it's worth the wait! 😉Sure, it’s technically a parody, but honestly? There isn't a single thing in there that isn't true.

Has nobody actually watched this yet? Come on, let me know what you think! 🙂
