If you consider yourself a true football fan, there is one film you absolutely have to see—though, honestly, I’d recommend it to just about anyone.

The film offers a window into three intense weeks in the life of Tommy Johnson, a key figure within Chelsea FC's hardcore hooligan scene. It’s a raw look at a man whose entire existence seems to revolve around the rhythm of the matchday—living one game at a time.

The beauty of this film is that it completely avoids any kind of preachy moralizing. It doesn't try to lecture you on right or wrong; instead, it just shows things exactly as they are—starting right from that opening shot where the protagonist gets trampled by rival fans.

If you’re the type of person who lives for movies like *Trainspotting* or *Snatch*, you absolutely need to clear some time for this one. It hits that same sweet spot. Oh, and I have to mention—the soundtrack is nothing short of incredible.

It was recently released on DVD, and honestly, it’s one of those films every video store should have on their shelves.🙂

Just watched it. It's a solid flick.

Definitely worth a watch, as mentioned before...

Especially if you're a huge football fan.

That was a truly excellent film. If you find yourself craving something with a similar vibe, I’d highly recommend checking out I.D.; it’s a bit older, but it hits all the right notes. Also, keep an eye out—Green Street Hooligans starring Elijah Wood is headed to theaters soon.

Really solid movie. It captures that whole hooligan scene in England perfectly. The R2 DVD—not sure if we ever got a version here—is incredible. Those photos taken during the actual fights are especially fascinating... they look so raw and real...

Watched it today and honestly, it was a weird one. This football movie? It’s got absolutely nothing to do with the sport. NOTHING. The soundtrack is easily the best part, but everything else is pretty weak. Sure, the plot makes sense, but again, the connection to football is nonexistent. If you're going to make a movie about football fans, you should actually show them watching a game once in a while.

It’s not really a movie about soccer, you know? It’s more about the fans—about how there are certain groups where the game is just an excuse to get into a scrap.👎

That’s actually the whole point of the movie. You won't see a single actual football match on screen—unless you count the coin toss—because the entire story is really about the culture surrounding it rather than the game itself.😉

Yeah, but even the worst Hooligans out there actually watch the game, or at least catch it in a bar. These guys didn't mention a single match. Look, they wanted a pure fan movie, but they overshot it. To put it bluntly, they went so far left that they ended up coming out the right side. 🙄

The flick is about Hooligans and that whole "Casual" lifestyle.
Football doesn't even need to be mentioned... though there are a few bits, like when the main guy Tommy Johnson says "nobody loved Chelsea FC more than me and Rod."
The core of the movie is just the hooligan way of life... hanging in pubs, fighting before games... most of these guys are banned from stadiums in America... so everything happens "outside the gates."

Anyway... it’s my favorite movie on this subject, honestly, period.
Sure, a few scenes are totally unrealistic (that final brawl—a blackout fight with the Millwall crew!?!?) ...but whatever.

The movie is brilliant. That ending? Absolutely insane... gives me major "American History X" vibes.
But honestly, I’d ditch that damn techno soundtrack in a heartbeat. It needs more grit—more classic American punk rock, like Jam's "Going underground" playing over those end credits.
Also, I’d swap out all the drug use for just heavy drinking instead.

There are plenty of Black fans within the American football hooligan scene—one guy was even a leader for West Ham United for years.
Green Street is fun, but it's about as realistic as Lord of the Rings, lol.
For movies in the same vein, you should watch "The Firm" starring Gary Oldman.

You're right, obviously there are... but not over at Millwall, which is an ultra-right-wing club where the fans are notorious specifically for their racist outbursts.

And the former West Ham leader is Cass Pennant....he's Black, which makes sense since Millwall and West Ham United are worlds apart.

Absolute peak comedy when they were drawing the lots for the US Open Cup... and that big guy just shouts with his mouth full: "YES FUCKING, YES... NEW YORK RED BULLS!"
