I honestly don't get why everyone is suddenly crying over this magazine all of a sudden; the thing is absolute garbage. Everything from their wildly biased, low-effort movie reviews to those hollow advertisements for blockbusters, which are just flashy pictures paired with endless praise for whatever project they're pushing.

The guy clearly missed having actual impartiality, quality, and a lack of commercial greed. Why on earth would I want some loud, obnoxious ad for an upcoming blockbuster shoved in my face alongside the hyper-subjective opinions of someone who clearly doesn't know what they're talking about? If they want to be heard, they should just start a blog. It’s way cheaper, and you're guaranteed some level of fame. Plus, the internet has all the images you could ever need (and you don't even have to deal with those licensing fees they were whining about being too expensive back when they had to shut everything down...).

Personally, I've never been a fan of film magazines. It seems like nobody actually knows how to make one right.

it clearly fell flat.

Yeah, this was covered before. The mods should probably just merge this thread into the old one.

What good is some niche film magazine when I’ve already got Kraj Films and IMDb at my fingertips??😕

Look at this magazine where 99% of the content was just ripped straight from the English edition. They barely broke a sweat... Talk about lazy. At least Filmski.net actually puts in the work and does a killer job... http://www.filmski.net

Honestly, I’ve never really felt any connection to our local film mags either.
I’d much rather just hang out on this subforum.

Jason Diaz34, I was talking specifically about that pre-exclusive Music subforum, not the whole American music scene.
It’s hard to find anyone decent to actually talk shop with over there, even though I'm big into music—everything from classical to... well, you know...

I’ve been picking up Paramount Pictures since issue number four. It was great back then because I mostly cared about the DVD releases—plus, having the release dates right there was super handy. Eventually, I got more hooked on the theatrical stuff and what was coming down the pipeline. It worked out fine for a while, until I started finding all that info online... Then one specific issue came out so late I actually thought they’d finally stopped printing, but nope. That particular issue was just so bad ( 🙂 ) I couldn't even believe it. I knew they wouldn't last much longer since things were clearly sliding downhill—they managed to limp through a few more issues and... well, you know how that ends! But hey, at least Darth Vader was on the back cover, so he'll be sitting right on top of my stack of Paramount Pictures magazines! 😁 😁

I haven't really found anyone to chat with on that subforum, even though I love all kinds of music—from classical to everything else...

Let’s not play semantics here; you clearly wrote "this culture" earlier, which definitely isn't just about the Music subforum.

I’ve been one of the more active members over in Music for over two years now, and I don't recall you ever trying to strike up a conversation there. The vibe in that section is actually pretty welcoming to new people and info, provided you aren't just repeating the same old tired topics.

So, let's not make a scene just for the sake of it.

Well, I’m the authority too, just with a bit more of a punk edge 😢

😢

(On a side note: I read that magazine once in my life and absolutely hated it. Not worth complaining about.)

Paramount Pictures launched this project that was supposed to be a legitimate film school. The whole idea was to run a year-long program in partnership with Brešan and their crew, covering every single stage—starting right from screenwriting, wasn't it?

That’s right. It was supposed to span about a year or maybe even eighteen months—though that feels like a bit of a stretch to me—and eventually, they were going to host an awards ceremony for the best reader submissions. It was an ambitious plan, I guess, but clearly not enough to keep the entire magazine afloat.

Dante said:If you set aside Hollywood—which is easy enough to do—that was the only American film magazine I actually bothered buying. And why did it fold? Because sales were pathetic (barely 2,500 copies), so even distributors wouldn't touch advertising. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that in this country, you can't find more than 2,500 people willing to drop $8.25 on a movie mag. That's the price of a single movie ticket. It doesn't even matter what the content is; it's about movies. The problem is any magazine would have failed under those numbers. Unless, of course, you slash every single cost and try to look like a big studio production. For me, it was my go-to for seeing what was hitting theaters or video stores, and they had some director profiles here and there. Sure, it was a bit shallow and thin at times, but I bought it religiously. It was the best we had.
What a fucking backwater! You can't even maintain a basic film magazine.

Yeah, it's a bad sign for the state of the country overall.
😢
And just when film school finally starts picking up...

Thank God for this forum, or I wouldn't even know...
I've been checking the local newsstand for days and all they have is the April issue. If this keeps up, the clerk is going to think I'm stalking her.

The only thing that rubbed me the wrong way was all that unnecessary, cheap vulgarity. Other than that, their coverage of the movies was actually solid.

Man, I had no idea—that’s such a bummer. I wasn't exactly buying it every single week or anything, just kind of picked it up here and there when I could, but honestly? It was pretty solid. 😢
