It’s just like everything else... this is nothing short of blatant discrimination against us atheists and agnostics.
It's honestly absurd. Does a person really have to mourn the death of the Pope?
The last few days have been exhausting. Every thirty minutes it's the same news cycle on loop. No movies playing, the local AMC Theatres are all shut down...
One word: terrible.

Pretty soon, every major network from NBC to CBS will probably be broadcasting the funeral live.

And they’ll probably bring in some Big Brother is watching you vibe too.👎

You can't force people to act a certain way. Me heading out to the AMC Theatres wouldn't somehow diminish my respect for anyone who passed away. And honestly, the deceased wouldn't even be happy knowing I spent all day moping and praying.
I don't really care about the local theaters... I don't go to them anyway.😁

Honestly, movie theaters and stages are already packed these days, so this is just a total loss for them.🙄

I mean, people actually go to the movies; especially on weekends.
Whatever, I get it for the actors—they don't really work that much more than they don't. This was probably good for them. Though, I guess some won't be directing funerals like they used to a few years back.

😢 Exactly, because how else could they make you feel miserable? During times like those, we're all expected to be mourning, and our meddling government will go out of its way to ensure that’s exactly what happens. All in the name of saving souls! 😈 :2up: 🙂

Oh, look at everyone suddenly acting all obsessed with China! As if they weren't just sitting around their houses, moping and spitting venom at their neighbors like they usually do, 😁 🙂

It's awful... I mean, does a person really have to die just because the Pope dies?
The last few days have been brutal—the same news every thirty minutes, not a single movie playing, even the AMC Theatres are closed.
One word: terrible.

You should see CNN. They'll just cut away from coverage in Rome to show a report from Krakow, or maybe just read the weather forecast.

You can always start your own non-profit organization.

---
Everyone complains so much, yet when I head to the movies early in the week (not this week) at any theater, they're completely empty.
Go to the independent theaters and save them from going under.
Everyone loves to trash AMC Theatres saying they aren't worth it and that nobody should go there, but suddenly the only thing that wasn't working was that one multiplex miracle.

It's like every single news network in the US is going to broadcast the funeral live.

It’s the exact same thing with CNN—they had non-stop coverage regarding the death of the Pope, and it was the same deal over on LCI in France🙄 and honestly, I saw it on a bunch of other channels too.

I don't see what the big deal is. Usually, when there's a period of national mourning, movie theaters and playhouses end up closed anyway; at least that's how it's always worked, and it's not just happening here in the States.

Or maybe the issue is simply because, in this specific instance, the period of mourning is for the Pope.

The last few days have been a complete nightmare for me. It feels like I'm seeing the same news stories every thirty minutes, there isn't a single decent movie playing, and the local AMC Theatres are all shut down.
One word: awful.

Look, if you want my take, I’d say you’re being discriminated against during holidays like Christmas or Easter Monday too. Since those are religious holidays, they shouldn't mean anything to you, right? So it would be only fair if you were expected to work instead of taking the day off to celebrate. I bet you don't complain about discrimination then. 🙏

I am quite disgustingly old, so please bear with me while I indulge in a bit of historical reminiscence. Back in the seventies and eighties, whenever some politician from the old administration passed away, we’d be plunged into three days of national mourning. Since the average age of those officials was around eighty, it wasn't exactly a shock when we found ourselves observing such mourning periods two or three times a year. In those days, it wasn't just that theaters were scarce; even on television, there was absolutely nothing to watch except the news and somber classical music. For those who might not realize, video technology and satellite TV simply didn't exist. Honestly, it's a miracle we survived, and I find it genuinely amusing now when my children whine because a day of mourning means their favorite late-night talk show isn't on the air.

You don't seem to mind the "discrimination" when it suits your schedule. 🙏

👍

The thing is, these types of people won't even show up on regular weekdays, they suddenly can't face going to school, and so on... they always find a way to feel victimized and it’s always someone else's fault. Ugh.

How would you even know if I care or not?
this is such an exaggeration;
just like back in the 80s, things are the same now. they just changed the flags.

NoWa said:.... the biggest AMC Theatres in the city isn't showing any movies today, tomorrow, or Friday on the day of the funeral. The second largest theater, Broadway, decided to skip anything lighthearted or funny, just for today and tomorrow—and other local theaters are following suit.

The Guthrie Theater, the Metropolitan Opera, Jiminy Cricket, and The Comedy Store have also announced they’re suspending all shows. Everything should be back to normal by Wednesday....

I guess we'll just be hearing serious music on the radio now, kind of like when Marshall died?
