Diogo cut his finger off celebrating a goal

Paulo Diogo, a midfielder for the Swiss top-flight club FC Basel, just learned the hard way that celebrating too hard can actually cost you a finger.

It all went down after he notched an assist for his team's third goal—he went for it, jumping onto the barrier separating the pitch from the stands to celebrate the moment.

The guy clearly wasn't paying attention, though—his wedding ring got snagged in the metal fencing, and when he tried to jump back down toward the field, the ring didn't budge, resulting in part of his finger being sliced right off.

Doctors at a local hospital in Basel tried their best to stitch the severed piece back on, but unfortunately, they couldn't make it work.

Something similar happened to an acquaintance of mine once. He was dunking a basketball when his pinky finger got caught between the backboard and the rim. When he landed, he was completely blindsided by the sudden pain and blood. It was a pretty grim sight to witness, let alone experience.

You know what the most tragic part of this entire situation is? It’s the fact that the referee actually handed him a yellow card just because of how he celebrated 😂.
