I’m not even sure what to call this thing, other than maybe "morning congestion."

Basically, when I first wake up, I can't function properly for at least an hour. My nose just runs uncontrollably—it's constant clear mucus. I have to wipe my nose every single minute. I go through entire PACKAGES of tissues every morning without fail. And the sneezing? I’ll sneeze at least 50 times in that first hour.

Once that hour passes, everything just levels out. The runny nose stops, the sniffing stops, the sneezing stops. For the rest of the day, I feel like a completely healthy person... just totally normal.

This happens year-round, except during the summer.

My bedroom temperature is kept steady throughout the night; I don't sleep in a cold room or breathe in freezing air, so I don't think it's a chill causing this. I also don't have any allergies to dust, mites, or anything like that.

I'm pretty sure I inherited this from my dad because he deals with the exact same symptoms and issues.
What could this actually be, and is there any way to get rid of it?...

Could be an allergy to dust or mites...
During the summer, we tend to let more fresh air circulate through the rooms.

Hey there, I’m dealing with something pretty similar and honestly, I have no clue what’s actually triggering it... I’m starting to think it might be some kind of allergy? Lately, I’ve been switching back to those old-school cloth handkerchiefs because, after a ton of trial and error, I realized that if I use a cloth one, I only sneeze maybe two or three times in the morning before I'm good. But if I use the paper tissues? There must be something in them that's irritating my nose... It's just super annoying and exhausting to deal with.

I really don't think these symptoms have anything to do with a common cold. I deal with allergy flare-ups myself from time to time—especially with dairy. Just one glass of milk (particularly the store-bought pasteurized kind) is enough to trigger the exact same issues you're describing. It’s a bit less intense with dust, but I suspect you might be reacting to dust or dust mites, especially since this starts happening while you're still in bed in the morning. You should probably get an allergy test done...

It’s gotta be an allergy.

I deal with the exact same thing—sneezing fits in the morning, watery eyes, runny nose, the whole bit. Then, about 30 minutes later, it just vanishes.

A cold actually makes you feel like garbage; you’re exhausted and run down. In this case, though, everything points toward an allergy.

Take a look into vasomotor rhinitis.

For years, I dealt with nothing but a constant runny nose and sneezing every single morning, until I finally decided to see a private pulmonologist.
After receiving a corticosteroid injection, the symptoms vanished for good.

Hey guys, I could really use some help or advice here. For like five years now, my allergies have been kicking my butt right around February or March—usually just when things start warming up and nature wakes up. I’ve actually done two allergy tests already, but they couldn't find anything specific at all. This year, though, the attack hit me right at the start of January. It totally caught me off guard since it's still freezing out, and I didn't even take any meds because I figured it was too early for the season to start. Last year, I started my therapy by late January and stayed fine, but this year? Man, I've been ending up at the clinic every other day getting IV drips and stuff. I haven't slept in like fifteen days straight because this cough is just suffocating me. They're sending me to Spirit of New York for more testing, but I'm still waiting on an appointment. I don't know how to keep living like this... does anyone have any ideas on how to maybe ease the suffering a little bit? Thanks!

I’ve always struggled with dust and mite allergies—constant runny nose and sneezing fits. It hits me hardest during the winter months. But last year, I switched over to infrared heating panels, and honestly, I just had to share how much of a game-changer it’s been. I can finally breathe! The air feels so much cleaner, there's none of that annoying dust swirling around the apartment anymore, and my energy bills are staying low even in the dead of winter. Highly recommend it!
