Figure out what it was that drove you to start smoking in the first place, then go ahead and cut that thing out of your life for good.

everyone trying to QUIT

once you actually commit to never lighting up again—and I mean a real decision, not some "maybe this time will stick" or "fingers crossed" crap🙄
that's when you'll finally stop
been there, done that...

Mary_1963 said:Go spend an afternoon walking through a hospital wing... specifically the pulmonary ward. Your craving for a smoke will vanish instantly, guaranteed. 😁 Honestly, most people quit because they’re terrified of dying. You need a massive reality check to make it stick.

I know folks who finally tapped out right when cigarette prices spiked again.
One woman I knew just tucked that extra cash away and ended up buying clothes instead—it adds up to like $167 😲 dollars eventually.
As for me... I quit for the sake of a little kid in my life. If it wasn't for them, I probably still wouldn't have stopped...

Maybe I’m just wired differently, but for me, it was one thing. I just looked at my cigarette, said "this is the last one," stubbed it out, and honestly? I never even thought about lighting up again. Not after a year, not after two, not even a month. Once you make that call and settle things with yourself, it’s actually pretty easy. I mean, going to rehab isn't a bad idea either, especially when you think about the people fighting throat cancer in hospitals everywhere.😢 You’re definitely throwing it away, right?

It’s never too late to kick the habit
Most illnesses—starting with lung issues but extending to everything from osteoporosis to gum disease—are things you could potentially avoid entirely, regardless of your family history. The main thing you really need to focus on is staying smoke-free and avoiding environments heavy with nicotine pollution. Even if you decide to quit after decades of smoking, that single choice can save your health and give you enough extra years to actually enjoy watching your grandkids grow up. According to the World Health Organization, based on extensive research, it truly is never too late to stop poisoning your body with nicotine.

Roughly 48 hours since my last cigarette! 🎉

If I can just keep this streak going! 🙂

Spot on! 👍

I mean, look, if we accept the fact that our cells are constantly rebuilding themselves, then it just makes sense that if we feed them the absolute best fuel possible—you know, high-quality food—our bodies can actually regenerate properly and our health might actually get better.
For anyone out there who smokes, antioxidants are basically a massive deal because they act like a shield for your cells against all those free radicals and toxins you're pulling in from the water and the air, or specifically, the smoke.

And honestly, those old-school diseases passed down through our genes don't necessarily have to kick in if we're being smart about our health, like, if we stay away from cigarettes, watch what we eat, and actually move around enough. 🙂

(I think I got the name right, Nicorette)
Has anyone actually used these, or are the patches better for quitting?
Asking for my dad—he’s been smoking for 35 years and finally wants to quit, so we're trying to figure out how to help him out...
If you've got any real experience with this, let me know..

It really just comes down to sheer willpower, I suppose.

Look at it this way: if you finally make the call to kick the habit, it’s a whole lot easier to stay clean when you aren't constantly pumping nicotine back into your system.

You can just go get some specialized therapy and suddenly you aren't smoking anymore. It’s actually pretty straightforward and works, it's just incredibly expensive.

I mean, I really don't believe in magic wands—you know, those quick fixes that promise everything overnight. Honestly, it feels like you could get the exact same rush from just doing 20 minutes of intense exercise. It gets those endorphins and enkephalins flowing just as well... and the best part? It doesn't cost you a dime.

The patches are generally more effective, especially for someone who has been smoking for 35 years.

Man, stop digging up old news from the archives; everything regarding this is already laid out in the main thread.
This whole thing needs to be shut down.

I joined this Reddit community pretty late, but I'm genuinely curious about one thing: how did your dad end up doing? Or more specifically, DID HE ACTUALLY QUIT SMOKING? Sending greetings from the northern part of Amiens. Paul Chavez5

Man, talking about smoking is always such a heavy hitter... we're really getting into the thick of it here.

About a year ago, I finally quit smoking using that Allen Carr book—you know, *The Easy Way to Stop Smoking*. Honestly, if you have even a tiny bit of willpower to quit, I’d recommend it to anyone and everyone...
I found out later there’s actually a movie version, too. I managed to track down the film itself, but I can't find any subtitles for it. Ugh, I really want to translate it myself, but I just can't find any English subtitle files anywhere. If anyone happens to have them, could you please email me? (And hey, if someone actually has the American version, I wouldn't complain). Thanks in advance.😉

You’ve got that stellar thread titled "Quitting Smoking—Tips, Tricks, and Support" or whatever... so maybe head over there? I mean, someone is bound to have some actual insight, and that specific topic was created precisely for dealing with this kind of mess. 😉
Personally, I’m also looking for answers
