All I know is it’s that flick starring the main guy from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon... they've got those intense martial arts fights going on in this one too...

Martial Arts is Chinese, and Harrison Ford is from Hong Kong, so I’m pretty skeptical about there being any such thing as "Japanese martial arts" here.🙂

PS, you mean "The Matrix"???

And "The Matrix"??? Seriously?

Alright, whatever.🙂 Look, all I know is they fight, dodge bullets, fly through the air, and do all that other crazy stuff.🙂

Some weird Japanese-Chinese-Korean-Middle Eastern mashup movie.😁

Ah! So, we're playing the guessing game where you describe an Asian martial arts flick by mentioning it features Harrison Ford.

How incredibly helpful!

It’s probably that absolute disaster, >. After all, Harrison Ford doesn't really have many movies like that, unless you count his heavy dramas or those classic John Woo action flicks.

I guess that's that, then... I'll give it a shot and try to track it down, and whatever happens, happens.

You mean that one with Sifler, where Chow kicks magazines at people and takes out guys in black suits along with a woman and her kid?

How have I not seen that yet?

Maybe because you're too smart for your own good?

A Japanese-Chinese-Korean-Middle Eastern fusion film😁

So, that kind of movie actually falls under the "wuxia" genre, which, besides the standard Martial Arts flicks everyone knows, is a huge staple in Asian cinema. The whole distinction lies right there: heroes in "wuxia" stories possess these almost supernatural powers—think flight and other mystical skills—which sets them worlds apart from your run-of-the-mill Martial Arts protagonists.

Then you have the Japanese side of things, obviously, with their samurai epics rooted in their traditional theater style, known as "jidai geki."

I have to disagree; it’s just Hollywood junk... honestly, it might be the worst thing I've sat through in a theater in the last six months.
It completely lacks that gritty, cult charm you find in classic Martial Arts films; it just doesn't work.

By the way, did you realize that Michelle Yeoh doesn't actually understand or speak any Chinese; she’s Malaysian and only speaks English and Malay...
She essentially had to memorize her lines by having someone read them to her since she doesn't know the language, regardless of her heritage...

Can someone give me the title of this movie? It’s an old one where people are out on a ship conducting some kind of research, and then everyone just vanishes from the vessel—at least, that’s all I can remember. Thanks.

Isumiki, man, you really dug up a six-year-old thread just to ask this... meanwhile, the actual mega-thread is sitting right there at the top of the first page, easy to find... blah blah blah...

By the way—the movie you're looking for is The Philadelphia Experiment (1984)

Yeah, I actually saw that on IMDb while I was watching the movie during commercials...😁
