Just rub some Deep Relief on it and take it easy. If the pain starts getting actually unmanageable, you can always grab some Advil and call it a day...

Until six months ago, I was a heavy smoker—up to three packs a day—and I was used to dealing with headaches. Then, I managed to quit entirely for seven years. In the meantime, I fell back into old habits and started smoking heavily again, reaching that three-pack-a-day mark. Now, I can say I am a CONTROLLED smoker, limiting myself to just a few cigarettes a day, but even with that first cigarette, I feel intense cramping or pain in my thigh muscles and my shins. To be specific, halfway through my very first morning cigarette, I am already feeling severe spasms in my thighs and shins. My diagnosis is epilepsy of an unspecified type, though I cannot recall having a single seizure, and my primary medication is Trileptal, 600 mg twice daily. As for other anti-epileptics, I take Rivotril, and Katena was recently added to my regimen, but it has had absolutely no effect on the muscle pain. I am asking anyone who might know or can make an educated guess to please answer my question regarding the cause of this pain, because the neurologists and psychiatrists here in the US are all just shrugging their shoulders...

My brother is complaining he can't sleep because his muscles are constantly aching. He’s working all day—sometimes up to 12 hours straight. We have this small family business at home, and since one of our guys is out on medical leave, my brother and I are basically covering his shifts just to stay afloat—it’s a total survival struggle right now. He told me he even nods off at his desk sometimes, only to snap awake when he bangs his head on the table. He can't keep this up much longer; he's only 21, and this kind of grind is way too much for him.

Anyway, I wanted to ask if protein shakes might help him recover some strength? I spent a year hitting the gym and drinking protein, and honestly, it helped me quite a bit—I could lift more and just felt better overall...

A few more details: he gets about 7-8 hours of sleep, weighs around 220 lbs, and is 6'3"... His job is a mix of everything—sometimes he's hauling heavy boxes and equipment in the warehouse, sometimes he's doing deliveries, and other times he's at a workbench doing assembly work. He’s also constantly on the phone with customers, which—as you know—is mentally draining and just adds to the whole mess...

Please, give me any advice you can. Primarily, I need to know about the protein idea—will it actually make a difference or not?

I haven't been able to find anything online about these specific symptoms, so I figured I'd check here to see if anyone actually knows what's going on.
Basically, about every two months, I get this random spot of pain in my leg muscles—quadriceps, specifically—either in the left or right leg, depending on the day. It’s just one single point of pain. It doesn't hurt when I touch it, I can still do everything normally, and it clears up after a few days. That's really it.
I haven't been able to link it to any specific workouts, the weather, hitting anything, or anything like that... it just shows up, hurts sporadically during the day, and then vanishes after a couple of days.

Hi there.

So, three days ago, my wife and I both woke up with intense muscle aches.
The weird part is—we haven't changed a single thing in our routine.
Same bed, our little girl sleeping between us, no drafts since the doors are shut and we only have a window cracked open. Everything has been exactly the same for months...
What’s even stranger is how this pain just "travels" all over the body.
Our forearms are aching—for instance, my left calf was hurting, but now that’s mostly gone.
It’s hard to find any real answers online because "muscle pain" is such a broad term—you just get a million vague results and nothing helpful.

Take me, for example—three days ago my forearms weren't bad, but now they are.
My biceps were hurting before, but now they're feeling better. We aren't eating anything different...
The pain is actually bad enough that I can barely close my pants pocket—she’s struggling with it too.
My wife is dealing with really sharp pains in her fingers, though I don't have that. It's just very strange.

Could this be something widespread, like some kind of virus or something else?
We honestly have no clue.
Thanks.

I’m not even sure if anyone here has dealt with something like this, which is why I’m posting under this weird title. Exactly six months ago—back in February—I started getting these intense pains in my neck and shoulders, along with this tingling sensation in my hands. Right when the pain kicked in, I went in for X-rays and blood work, but everything came back pretty much normal, aside from some minor issues with my head posture. Based on those results, I was sent to a physical therapist, and following their recommendation, I did ten sessions at a private clinic back in May, followed by another ten sessions at the local hospital in June. The problem is, the neck and shoulder pain hasn't budged. I ended up seeing a neurologist, and once again, more blood tests showed absolutely nothing specific. The neck and shoulder stuff actually let up a little bit at the start of August, but I've still got this dull, nagging ache on my right side, right at the bottom of my shoulder blade. To make matters worse, toward the end of June, I started feeling pain in my legs—mostly in my calves and knees—and lately, it’s become almost unbearable. Even OTC painkillers aren't doing a damn thing. The weather changes aren't helping either; whenever the wind picks up, my shoulders cramp up even harder because they're constantly tense, which just makes the leg pain worse. And as soon as the wind starts blowing, my joints, especially in my hands, start acting up too. I have an MRI scheduled for my head and neck soon, and honestly, I'm praying it finally gives me some real answers because I've been stuck in this limbo for six months now. What I really want to know is: has anyone else gone through something similar? Could this be a sign of something serious? I'm terrified it might be something like cancer, metastases, or some kind of underlying muscular or skeletal disease. Does anyone have any advice? Any thoughts? THANKS

Honestly, to me, this sounds more like a circulation issue. You should probably go see a neurologist...

If all your other labs look clean, go get tested for Borrelia. Did a tick bite you recently, or is this just a general thing?

I went through the exact same thing you're dealing with. I did every single test imaginable, even an MRI of my entire spine, and the doctors kept telling me I was perfectly healthy while the pain just kept getting worse.

I pushed for it myself and finally got tested for Borrelia—the results came back screaming positive (I had my bloodwork sent over to Germany).

The infectious disease specialists here in the States don't recognize chronic Lyme disease, so I'm still stuck without any actual treatment, but at least now I know what's actually happening to me.

I really hope it turns out to be something else for you, but seriously, stop guessing and go get tested.😉

Out of nowhere, my neck started killing me. Then it hit my shoulders, then this weird tingling sensation all over my body. Now my knees are aching, but the worst part is the pain in my shins and forearms. It’s relentless. And get this—absolutely zero painkillers are doing a damn thing to stop it. One minute the pain is driving me insane, the next it’s manageable, then it just disappears for no reason at all. It makes no sense.

Could joint pain actually be caused by poor circulation? My doctor checked the blood flow in my foot and told me everything looks perfect, so I'm stumped. What kind of tests can I get done to figure this out?

I've never actually been bitten by a tick, or at least I don't think so since I never bothered to pull one out or go see a doctor about it. Where can I even go to get tested for this stuff?

Honestly, I don't remember getting bitten by a tick either, but mosquitoes spread bacteria too.
If you're living in Washington, D.C., you can get testing done via a referral at Fran Mihaljević.
Otherwise, just go private at Quest Diagnostics or fly over to Germany.

Use the referral your doctor gives you first to cover all the basics. If they still can't find anything, then start looking into this.
Do some Googling on Lyme disease symptoms to see if they match.

I’ve done some reading, and my pains are strictly tied to my joints and muscles—nothing else is going on. I saw that it's treatable with specific antibiotics, so I'm wondering: does it actually work? And has anyone here found anything that actually helped?

....hey there....
I'm 33. I’ve been playing soccer non-stop since I was 7—currently playing in a local recreational league. I hit at least three training sessions plus a game every week. Injuries from tackles or sprains have been pretty rare until now. I also hit the gym about three times a week, though once in a while I'll push myself to failure. I tend to go easy on leg day because I find it harder to sprint when my legs are heavy....
Over the last eight months, things have gone south. I had a calf tear during a game (in the 89th minute, of all times!), followed by a quad strain during training while shooting at the goal—and I was fully warmed up. Then today, I felt this sharp pain in my left calf just ten minutes into the match while changing direction. I iced it and took some NSAIDs, but it still hurts; I can't stand on my toes, even if I can walk. It feels like another tear....
....What should I do? Is there anything I should be adding to my diet?
I've lived an active lifestyle my entire life. Aside from the occasional night out drinking with the guys once a month, I don't see why my body is suddenly hitting a wall, especially since I know plenty of guys much older than me who are still going strong....
My job keeps me on my feet too; I'm rarely sitting in one spot, maybe sitting down once a month on a workday....
Any advice? Should I look into specific supplements?

I looked for a suitable thread but couldn't find a better fit. Mods, feel free to move this if I've posted in the wrong section.... Thanks.
